Lynum: 'White Boy' Is No Racial Slur
Profiling Victims Urged To Call Police Chief

POSTED: 7:11 am EDT June 29, 2006
UPDATED: 11:19 am EDT June 29, 2006

Orlando Commissioner Daisy Lynum insisted she did nothing wrong when she called a city officer who pulled over her son a "white boy," and continued her crusade against racial profiling Wednesday night, according to a Local 6 News report.

"In the last week, I have been called (expletive) more times than I have ever been called probably in my life for calling a white boy a white boy," Lynum said. "Now, when did that become a racial slur."

Lynum also said the city's police department has a problem with racial profiling in front of a group of people at an Orlando church Wednesday night.

Lynum encouraged people who believe they have been racially profiled to call the Orlando police Chief Michael McCoy as she did when her son, Juan, 30, was pulled over for a broken headlight on his vehicle.

but it sure is a racial slur. If it was the cop who called her son "boy" she'd be foaming at the mouth. Cant have it both ways Mrs. Lynum. :eyes:

3. Slur or not, if her son was pulled over for a broken headlight...
...that's not profiling. That is a HUGE glaring infraction. And in most states, it's a fix-it ticket. So what's the big whoop?

2. If applied age appropriately, it's not.
If the "white boy" in question is an adult, he's a "white man," not a "white boy." Just as an adult black male is a man, not a boy. Now, wasn't that easy?

6. 30 years old. His name is Juan. It's a slur.
In particular, it's a slur when anyone's race (other than human) is implied to be more indicative of the entirety of their being than other attributes or characteristics of their behavior.

5. She looks to be old enough to refer to young adults as "boys," but...
come on. "White Boy" isn't generally a term of endearment.

Then again, Rush claimed he was going on a "boys' weekend out," didn't he?

FWIW, I despise the terms "white" and "black", but we as a society seem stuck with them at the moment.

7. Yup
Even if she does refer to men as "boy" by sticking the word "white" in front of it she made it a racial slur.

8. Would have to agree with that
There was no need to identify the race of the person in talking to them.

If I did something like that at work, I would be getting a call from HR.

9. Ms. Lynum is guilty of both sexism and ageism
The correct, unbiased term would be "white officer."

12. Of COURSE it's a racial slur.
Here's what she said: 'I don't want some white boy Tasing or shooting my son.'

Substitute 'Mexican', 'Arab', 'Jew', or 'n*****' in the above and see how it looks. Sorry, lady, but you don't get a pass on bigotry.
