Why are there so many close national elections
Worldwide? How can it be? What are the odds? If Romano Prody hadn't won in Italy (by a handful of votes, in another close election), against fascist Berlusconi, I'd start suspecting some sort of right wing global conspiracy.

3. True, but why 50/50?
I mean, you could have a 40/60 polarized electorate... Why 50/50?...

10. A lot of people with a lot of money control a lot of the media...
That is why they have been able to convince a lot of people that they too can get rich...

Even though there is little to no chance...

And so, they vote against their best interests....

11. 50/50 isn't right
I look at it as 20% wacko far left and 20% wacko far right does all the voting these days. And since 60% of people in the middle don't want to be forced to live in eithers idea of utopia they refuse to vote either way.

2. When you're flipping outcomes it has to be close to be somewhat
believable but never so much that you'll enrage the population (or hit the mandatory recount %)

6. Yeah, but 45/55 would be believable too...
Especially in a country like Mexico where there are a lot of people off the beaten path, so to speak.

7. I've heard it posted here on DU, and i believe it's true.
That it's easier to steal an election if it's close outcome, rather then a landslide. But as Bu$h is finding out it's difficult to misgovern when one steals an election, no matter the margin of victory.

8. Because nobody would believe a Republican landslide.

9. Because democracy is a sham.
In a nation such as the United States with 250 million people we are expected to pick between one of two people who are supposed to represent our point of views? Please. In a real democracy we would have hundreds of candidates to choose from.
