Dem Campaign Slogan: "America Is Better Than This"
or "America Can do Better"

inspiration: The GOP seems to be satisfied with mediocracy.

They're okay with wars overseas, as long as it makes them feel like they're safe and/or we're "kicking ass" - but they never seem to be interested in making a plan for peace.

America is better than this - we can lead and join coalitions with other countries in the interest of peace.

They're okay with paying out the nose for healthcare - anything else would be "communist" (even though every other developed country has a universal healthcare plan.

They're okay with minimum wages that will not get an average family out of poverty.

They're okay with ignoring the global threats of pollution, when we have the means to stop global warming NOW.

They're okay with jobs going overseas from lousy "free trade" agreements - as long as their job doesn't go overseas.

They're okay with setting aside their basic free speech and privacy rights, with the mistaken belief that this is the only way to fight terror.

They're okay with abject hunger and disease among the poorest in this country and the rest of the world, when we have the means to save millions of lives.

They're okay with widespread corruption among their own ranks, when we should be vigorously fighting this breach of public trust.

They're okay with "glitches" in the voting and registration process, as long as they keep winning elections.

that's just off the top of my head. antyhing else?

2. WORK SHOULD PAY
Health insurance is a right

War should be for DEFENSE

White collar crime should be PUNISHED

Laws against hiring illegal immigrants should be ENFORCED.

We don't torture. WE'RE BETTER THAN THAT.

NO MORE BRIBES. NO MORE EMBEZZLEMENT. NO MORE CORRUPTION.

4. Won't work. Need a real agenda, not just an anti-agenda.
We can do better--which has been tried before--makes it sound like we will do the same things but hope they turn out better. There's no optimism. People don't vote for "Choose me, I'm a little better than those guys." They vote for big stuff. It's morning in America. Don't stop thinking about tomorrow. Cheesy stuff like that. We need a positive, big slogan.

And it can't focus on what the Republicans do wrong--that's still letting them set the agenda and the debate, and then the debate stays on their home turf. We have to set the debate and the agenda and make them chase us. Ignore the damn Republicans, and tell people what we are going to do. "We are going to bring jobs back home. We are going to fix the budget. We are going to bring peace to the world and stop these can't-win wars that are slaughtering our troops and leaving our own cities unprotected in times of natural disaster. We will make America for all Americans, not just for the wealthy. Stuff like that.

If we sound partisan, we'll lose again. We have to sound visionary and positive. We can criticize the Repubs when they bring up their own issues--"You've had six years to do that, and haven't done it yet"--and we can point out their horrible failures--pictures of the Lower Ninth in New Orleans, pictures of coffins in Iraq, etc. But our focus has to be on what we can do right, not what they have done wrong.

13. I keep hearing that from the other side...
After simple, concrete solutions to pressing problems are offered. Withdraw from Iraq, sign Kyoto, enforce existing laws (like the Clean Air Act & RICO).

PLENTY of specifics are being offered by the Democratic party - and it's being met by vague criticism.

10. I like it
We used to be the leader in scientific innovation but now we are being lapped by Communist China is fuel economy standards. We're causing wars instead of providing for peace. We won't lift a finger to save our planet from global warming. We outsource labor because our leaders feel that South-east Asians can do better work than Americans. We have a debt and deficit that is spiraling out of control. We're headed toward bankruptcy and it wasn't even a fun trip. America can do better than this.
