WASHINGTON -- If you think beauty can't go more than skin deep, swallow this: Health officials on Thursday said drug companies could start gussying up their pills with pigments like those that give cosmetics a pearly sheen.

The pearlescent pigments can be used in any drugs that are swallowed, including pills, tablets and liquids, the Food and Drug Administration said. As a result, drugs may never look the same again.

The pigments can produce sparkly metallic, satiny and shimmery finishes, as well as different hues of red and gold, depending partly on the color of the underlying drug.

2. Today's Fancy Pill Coatings = Tomorrow's Cancer?
I'm not so sure this is a good thing. Why dress up pills? Is this encouragement to continue taking them? So many things used in food and candy in the past have turned out to be bad for us years later. I remember a certain dye used in M&M's to color them that was later banned.

With all the problems in the world today, we certainly don't need metallic pills to swallow. What a waste of time.

4. In America, appearance is everything. Like the $500K McMansions
they are building with a pretty stone/brick facade on the street side, but vinyl siding on the other 3 sides. No, not hardiplank, or masonite, actual vinyl siding...

12. Vinyl's better than Masonite
At least it doesn't rot like Masonite does.

It still doesn't belong on a $500k house.

Scary thing: up until about a year ago, the biggest McMansion builder in Fayetteville built his $350k homes with Masonite siding and 20-year shingles. He only quit doing it when his realtor told him he would not list any more new homes with that crap on them.

8. This actually isn't a bad idea.
Some people take medications that look similar to each other; making them more differentiatable might keep people from taking the wrong one.
