Is anyone listening to Franken?
He has an author on talking about how Bush got a higher percentage of the A-A vote in 2004 by sending money to black churches through the Faith-Based office. Eye-opening stuff.

2. What was it, a whopping 2 percentage points more?
Money well-spent! :sarcasm: Despite the fact that some church leaders accepted faith-based money, the vast majorities of their congregations were not fooled.

4. Nationally, yeah
But in Ohio, the Bush vote among blacks supposedly went from 11% to 17%.

10. I trust that figure about as much as I trust Diebold to count my votes.
Edited on Mon Jul-24-06 02:58 PM by Stevepol
Wait! Diebold counted the vote in OH already.

Actually, nowadays it makes no sense to arrive at any conclusion based on an election result.

There is absolutely no reason to have confidence in any election where the votes are counted by electronic voting machines, which means the vote was counted in total secrecy by extreme partisans without any verification process used to make sure the vote totals were accurate.

Play the new Video Game: US DEMOCRACY.

Rules: (1) You choose your electronic voting machine. The green machine is Diebold, the gold is ES&S, the purple is Sequoia, etc. (2) You decide how you want the election to come out and what combination of states would allow for that victory in the electoral college. (3) As you pass around the board, you bribe various officials, contact the Republican or Dem Secy's of State in the states you land on and bribe them one way or another for time with the computers, especially the central tabulator. (4) You can take a short cut by getting in good with the Urosevic brothers or landing a job at one of the voting machine companies and using your inside position to become a "technician" handling the machines in various state elections. From there you can use money you have acquired from pay-outs from various corrupt officials. If you are lucky enough to get a "Meet a Urosevic" card you can talk with Todd or Bob for long enough to learn where the machines are being programmed to tilt the greatest and you can use some of the bribery money to win big in election betting, especially in those states where the pre-election polls have the Dem candidate winning by large percentages.

You make up other rules as you go along. Remember to take advantage of the stupidity and spinelessness of Dems and other elected and non-elected officials in each state.

3. The author's chat about how the right couches arguments
Edited on Mon Jul-24-06 12:48 PM by BOSSHOG
was very telling which Franken did not pursue. Bottom line the right wing base is a bunch of fucking idiots and to communicate effectively with them you have to use short phrases like "Stay the course" and "cut and run." A comprehensive discourse on issues is way over their heads so the right avoids have them engaged thusly. I do appreciate Franken having more than just lefties on his show.

6. As in all cases, you only have pay off the leaders and flocks will
follow, even if they receive no material benefit. I am afraid that the brain-dead and brain-washed make up the majority of any ethinic group.

8. I never listen to Franken
Edited on Mon Jul-24-06 01:22 PM by TheWatcher
He has become milquetoast, and he is completely asleep, or willfully ignorant, on vote fraud in the 2004 election. That was enough to make me turn him off for good.

Randi and Mike are the best we have.

They aren't afraid of the truth.

Al seems like he's afraid of his own shadow ever since he began considering running in Minnesota.

I remember a very critical letter he got from a listener the other day that perfectly spelled out his deficiencies as a host. And I'm sorry, the truth hurts, when Sam Seder has filled in for him, as the letter pointed out, he has proved to be far more capable than Al. Al merely laughed it all off and took none of the critique seriously. What he doesn't understand is that a lot of us feel that way and no longer listen to him because he simply doesn't get it.

I used to like Al a lot. He is a great person, but on many issues he has lost his way.

Funny how that works, isn't it? Guess you can't please everyone.

That's the great thing about DU though. You have your opinion, I have mine. if you like to listen to Franken, great. I don't have anything against you personally for it. :hi:

My assertions remain.

Give me Randi or Malloy any day.

Al has been very weak on the election fraud issue, and he refuses to embrace the problems in Ohio and elsewhere, despite the continuing buildup of evidence that the 2004 election was indeed stolen.

Despite all that I wish him luck in Minnesota should he decide to run, and yes I would vote for him if I lived there, because having John Wayne Gacy represent Minnesota would be a step above the leadership they have there right now.

Still, just as Malloy lamented the other night, I wonder how Al will react if the machines and voting shenanigans cost HIM the race in Minnesota. It will be very interesting to see if he all of a sudden gets religion about the joke our electoral system has become.

12. I like Franken
Edited on Mon Jul-24-06 03:26 PM by Rob H.
He can be a bit pedantic at times, but he has awesome regular guests (David Brock, Tom Oliphant, and Joe Conason, to name just a few) and I always feel like I come away better informed about the big issues after I listen to his show.

Randi, on the other hand, meh. I'd like her better if she didn't like the sound of her own voice so much--the few times I've listened she was constantly butting in on what her callers were saying even if they were agreeing with her.
