Poll question: Time for another unofficial DU '08 Straw Poll: Vote Now!
Third in a more-or-less monthly series of quick snapshots of DU's current mood, '08 presidential-run-wise. The likely top ten prospective candidates are listed alphabetically, without comment. Don't worry--I won't argue with your choices or dispute your rationales--this isn't one of THOSE polls. If I've left out your favorite (Kucinich, Dean, Boxer?), be sure to let me know.

3. Sorry folks, I only give politicians one chance.
Kerry and Gore had theirs and screwed it up. They are both good men and Kerry is doing a good job in the Senate, but he won't get my vote again for Prez.

Gore I really don't think want's to go through the trauma again.

Each of the other candidates ou listed have positives and negatives. Out of THAT field, I want to see what Warner is going to do in a primary. I'm leaning toward him right now.

10. Gore never screwed it up, he won and everyone knows it
He deserves atleast 4 years in office even if it means we gotta vote him in TWICE.

15. Nope, sorry. Maybe the ballots screwed it up, maybe the SCOUTS was
wrong, but Gore QUIT fighting! He isn't in the WH, and I don't think he would do any better on a second run!!!

18. It's easy to say that kind of shit in hindsight, but its unrealistic.
the country was DONE with the fighting and wanted a president for better or for worse. After the SCOTUS ruling, Al Gore had no options left; especially since at the time the magnitude of voter fraud was unknown.

19. He wasn't a strong enough candidate
He chose a terrible, terrible running mate. Gore was wooden and robotic. He wasn't the Al Gore that he is today. He stank. A Hitlerbrain Cyborg could beat Chimpy in an election and Gore did such a piss poor job that Chimpy was able to cheat his way into power. If Gore had done the job properly, no amount of rigging would have changed the results. Losing was Gore's fault. The election shouldn't have even been close.

23. "Gore was wooden and robotic"
"Bush was trustworthy"
"Gore stretched the truth (was a liar)"
"Bush was a uniter"
All the points that the "liberal" press made time and again. All wrong.

24. All but one of your statements is true.
For some reason, Gore wasn't the real person Al Gore in front of a camera. I have no idea why. I don't know if he was listening to too many handlers, or he just do cameras well, but repeatedly, I've heard you don't see the real guy! I believe that! On interviews, at least many of them, he's relaxed and a very personable nice guy. On the campaign trail, he wasnt real.

27. Absolutely
I was delivering a guest lecture at Cornell University on the day of one of the debates. I watched it from the Teluride House, which is Cornell's dorm for their very very very smartest kids. We all sat down in the basement--although I periodically dashed out to huff back cigarettes--and we watched the debate. Gore won, but only barely. He was wooden and artificial and came across really badly. Bush might be an idiot, but to my recollection, he played the room a lot better.

I don't know about everyone else around here, but maybe it's just you and me who remember what a disaster that campaign was. It stunk.

5. You know, I had to say Hillary
because in spite of her laying low on some issues now, I see her as coming out and fighting when it counts!

Besides, I really think it's time we had a woman President.

29. I'd prefer just to whine
It's hardly my fault that no one on that list has "it". Gore comes closest, but man, he's got to tuck in that skirt some more and really start swinging.

30. That's the real problem, eg if Rudy wins for the GOP
then bang, election over, and the Repukes stay in power. We simply have to identify someone with a personality. A presence. Someone who could beat someone with actual charisma.

22. Al Gore is the only one I trust
at the moment. I think it was his speech about the rightwing radicalism and the threat it poses to our democracy that put me in his corner. Haven't heard anything quite that definitive from the others. I'll wait for them to make their case though some on the list have already removed themselves from my list by their words or actions.
