They didn't want warrants because they never planned to go to court.
And that's the scariest thing about it.
Even the most ignorant among us know that evidence obtained illegally is usually inadmissable in court. So why would the Bush administration and the NSA want to obtain it anyway?
Because there is never any intention of ever bringing charges against a "terror suspect" and allowing them due process. And this goes for American citizens as well, apparently.
We must ask the question over and over: What was the administration planning to do once this illegal surveillance turned up "useful information"? It has become obvious that bringing charges and allowing people to stand trial has never been part of the equation, because the evidence would be invalid there.
But you generally collect surveillance evidence with the intent of bringing charges against a suspect. The Bush administration doesn't want you to know who they are spying on, and they never plan to bring formal charges against those they are spying on.
to DU! I always thought the admin didn't want to expose who they were spying on, but your point makes it obvious how much more sinister their motives were/are. If this whole spying thing hadn't become public knowledge, would people start 'disappearing'?:scared:
9. If they didn't want to expose who they were spying on...
If that was all they were concerned with, they could have simply gotten the warrants from the FISA court just like every other president has done. It's not as if the court is going to go blabbing that information. If they wanted to, they could have very easily worked within the system and kept everything legitimately hush-hush. This just proves that Bushie has ulterior motives that he doesn't even want the secret court to know about.
