it is so hard ... to connect with good feeligns these days of bush war and
oil and corporate greed.

in a hospital out in nashville a woman is dying of cancer. she is not a legal resident of these united states. she does not have medical insurance. she does not speak the language. the republican administration has made it illegal (or a crime, or both, i think i read) for any medical facility to treat illegal aliens, undocumented workers, etc.

will this be our new holocaust, our american horror, our own blood guilt?

will the treatment of the poor, of the uninsured, or undocumented aliens be forced to become our new "underground"?

a living, breathing human being is dying. a woman is dying. republicans don't care. they didn't care in New Orleans during Katrina when bodies just floated down the flooded streets. they don't care in Nashville in the case of this undocumented alien who has gone to a hospital in pain because cancer is eating up her body. Bill Frist, who took the Hippocratic Oath -- he, and they--the rest of the republicans and christian coaleced, ralph reed, jerry fallwell, pat robertson followers, they simply just don't care...

and yet, they expect the world to care about them, about their religion, about their politics, and about this country which they are turning into a hell for so many.

what hell to pay are these republicans creating for themselves, for this country, and for those undocumented aliens who are the most recent scapegoats for all the sins committed by the republican bastards?

will the hospitals now be forced to hide the fact that they treat human beings regardless of their immigration status? will they turn away the dying? the undocumented? people who cannot afford to pay for their treatment? will our funeral homes refuse to bury people because they are undocumented, because they cannot pay, because they are poor, because they can soil the soil? will the bodies of the dead who cannot afford a decent, or legal resident status, burial be thrown into furnaces where they will be burn in giant crematories? will their ashes be returned to their countries of origin?

whatever happened to all those who wouldn't let terri schiavo die because, they said, life is more sacred than allowing a dying person to die? where are those who voted for bush because his right to life message paired more closely with their own moral values, so they said, than with anyone else's rigth to choose.

right to life hypocrits--indeed.

meanwhile, in nashville, a poor soul, a woman, an undocumented alien is dying. does the world even care?

1. Hypocrisy on a scale
Hypocrisy on a scale that makes it hard to even think about it. Such a huge, blatant contradiction it seems impossible. Nevertheless, all of this is a fine example of the old maxim: "actions speak louder than words". I'll leave it to you to consider what their** actions (in this case inactions) say about them, but it's not pretty.

**just to be clear, we're speaking of Republicans/Conservatives/Religious Right/et-al.

2. Welcome to W's America
As the governor in Texas, he signed a bill that those who couldn't pay the bill for their health care could be killed legally by the hospital. W's America.

3. will it be the fate of this woman too, or will the hospital in this case
exercise real compassion and treat the woman-regardless of the fact that she cannot pay and is undocumented?

how very sad this america of the bushes--sadder still that so many think he and his america are so great!
