Is Rockey's trailer really from FEMA?
Edited on Thu Aug-24-06 11:16 PM by gatorboy
If you go to the http://millionmanhump.org/index.php webpage, you can catch of Rockey Vaccarella peeking out the door of his infamous "FEMA trailer" but did he realy get this trailer from FEMA?

First, Rockey's trailer looks nothing like the FEMA trailers other individuals have been given,

And on top of that, it looks like it was privately bought:

Check out the sticker next to the door on the lower left. It reads "Jimco" which is a private trailer sales company that doesn't seem to be connected in any way to providing gov't funded trailers for New Orleans.

http://www.jimcotrailers.com/

So he has a store bought trailer? What's the deal here?

1. It is NOT a FEMA trailer. Only a "token" one.
He says he lives in a FEMA trailer, and bought a "token" trailer to haul to DC for his "wonder if I'll get to talk to him?" meeting with Mr.bush.

3. He admitted that? Then what's the point?
From what I've seen on the site, he must not be hurting financially because those trailers aren't cheap.

(edited to correct major error in subjectline) Not sure what the point was, except I would think that eventually the administration might notice people are catching on, and rather than doing a stupid pr stunt like this to make it LOOK like something positive was happening, they might actually DO something positive. But then, that is just me. Point is it was a set up job.

11. Now the question becomes...who bought his traveling trailer?
That's a $$ trail that should be followed.

2. fema would not give permission for the real one to be hauled
this dude should give madonna lessons in tireless self-promotion but even fema is not stupid enough to give permission for trailers to be transported for publicity stunts

his 15 minutes need to be over, all he got was coffee from *, he didn't get one dime brought back to this state, he achieved nothing except to draw attention to himself

Why take a gov't handout? Isn't that a Republican no no?

20. you don't know your republicans very well, do you?
welfare is only bad and only spoils character when it is offered to poor people, who are by nature weak and sinful

welfare is only right and proper for the rich, to protect their interests, they have the strength of character not to be "spoiled" by charity

i am not kidding, this is the way some of them really think -- hence all the rationalization for why welfare is okay for airlines (big business) but not okay for a single mom down on her luck

their little brains are completely upside down!

8. The man ran a large chain of Pizza Huts.

ROCKEY VACCARELLA
PERSONAL
Republican
35. Born in New Orleans. Grew up in Arabi and Chalmette. Lived 11 years in
Meraux.
Married, two children.
Graduated from Chalmette High, 1982. Attended St. Bernard Community
College.
Director of operations, Lundy Enterprises, as manager of 31 Pizza Hut
restaurants and 450 employees. Former general restaurant manager of Popeye’s Chicken & Biscuits on East Judge Perez Drive in Chalmette.

So he obviously couldn't have been hurting too much. In fact, he was such a successful businessman, you'd think he would've gotten back on his feet by now instead of still living in a FEMA trailer. Certainly someone like him could've gotten a loan for a new house by now.

17. he's a rich man seeking publicity
as far as not being rebuilt yet, we are talking abt st. bernard parish, depending on where his house was, it may not be possible for it to be rebuilt

it don't matter how rich you are, if MR-GO don't get shut down, you should not rebuild

plenty from chalmette and meraux have their insurance money but have bought elsewhere or if they hope to rebuild, they must wait and see if MR-GO is closed, right now, it does not look good for the home team

a lot of people are in holding patterns, it's got nothing to do w. income, i know of two other millionaires personally who have not yet been able to rebuild for various reasons, i accept this, HOWEVER, in this individual's case i smell a careerist who plans to enrich himself by getting involved in GOP politics

he did not ask bush for ANYTHING for the people of st. bernard, all he asked for was to meet with * and then he just slobbered on * -- it was completely embarrassing and self promoting

if he had asked for some concrete form of help, some dollar to be provided to someone in need (there are many, EVERY residence in st. bernard parish was destroyed) i would say his politics are his own business

the problem is...the only point of this meet-up has been for * to put the imprimatur on this person and give him GOP "cred"

12. Rockey has an agenda
Edited on Thu Aug-24-06 11:46 PM by Mabus
After stops in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. Mobile, Montgomery, and Birmingham, Alabama. Columbia, South Carolina. Raleigh, North Carolina. Richmond, Virginia.

To see the governors of each state at their respective state capitols. And to see the mayors of Bay St. Louis, Mobile, and Birmingham.

To tell his story.

And to deliver his personal message to President George W. Bush. In Rockey’s FEMA trailer. Over a Cajun dinner prepared by a world-famous Louisiana chef.

Part of Rockey’s story will be that MillionMenFront wants to deliver a million people to south Louisiana and the Gulf Coast to help clean up, rebuild, and get families back in their homes. http://millionmanhump.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=33&Itemid=2

edited to add first three paragraphs.

14. too bad a big part of it so far is thanking bush for millions of trailers
thanking him for his help and wishing he could remain president. Any publicity to get people aware, to get people to help others get their places back together, that is good. Too bad this has turned out as it has. Ain't no FEMA trailer. Mr.bush isn't going to be president again, oh let us hope not. And there aren't any millions of FEMA trailers in Katrinavilles.

15. Nope.
Most those 10,000+ trailers are still here in Arkansas parked at Hope.

And those are large mobile homes parked there.

16. There's a lot more to the story
the guy filming him lists his clients as Texaco, Monsanto and Cheveron. Add in a former GOP candidate who is still rah-rah for Bush and you have to start wondering what this group really is about. The owner of the website is a lawyer/minister in Pasedena, California. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=1978752&mesg_id=1978752

Their link page doesn't even provide links to other Katrina help pages or any other information on how to help. For the moment, the webpage seems to be set up just to promote Rockey.
