Job Opportunity - catch is they play Fox-News all day long
I have an opportunity to work on an Army base in my field. The money is good and the people nice. However, besides dealing with the fact that my check comes from the military industrial complex, I would have to deal with Fox News playing on a huge screen in the common cube area ALL day long.

I'm not sure I can stomach that. What about you?

1. Get one of those things that can secretly shut it off..
:) A Duer posted it here a while back. You just push a button and it turns off FAUX News wherever you are. Maybe they'll think it's network problems and switch to something else. ;)

3. That'd drive me nuts
At my old job, the person next to me used to blast the Bill O'Reilly radio show. G*d, it sucked. I wanted to stab myself.

I don't know about you, but I would go crazy. :P

5. The solution (and an entertaining one at that...):

http://www.tvbegone.com

After a few days of randomly turning on and off the set, they will have the technician out to look into it; he will find nothing and charge them for the trouble.

A few repeat performances and they will likely turn the Idiot Box off permanently.

9. Can you use an ipod, or earplugs?
You can get some decent benefits w/a government job, and someone has to be hired; why not you?
But what job has TV on all the time? Odd that...

10. and after you've been there awhile, you could start
campaigning for equal time for a more moderate view, i.e. CNN or Lassie reruns. If it's a federal installation, there shouldn't be tv playing all the time. And, hell yes, I'd take a job that provides benefits and a living wage. If you're a DUer and you can pass the background check, more power to you. I couldn't. Come to think of it, I couldn't pass the a drug (alcohol) test right this minute, thanks to that sorry old Mr. Guinness.

11. Is that a workplace or an entertainment center?
My mind boggles at the thought of playing anything (not just Fox) all day long on a big screen in any work area. If you can stand Fox all day, then take the job. Just lie back and think of the good things you will do with the money.

13. Check e-bay for an old iPod.
Download the software from Apple, and podcast some AAR shows and Thom Hartmann from WHITE ROSE. If you are allowed to use headphones, you can drown out the propaganda channel with an iPod.

14. I think that's great! Not only can you work at a good job for you, but
you can also be there to counter all the garbage that comes out of the tv with facts and intellect that you learn from DU!

I say go for it :)

Seriously. Working for change, from right inside the belly of the beast, and they are paying you!

16. Are you currently unemployed?
If so, take the job, you can always keep looking for another one. I was out of work for 8 months and would have taken this one if it meant a paycheck - but I wouldn't consider changing jobs if it meant I had to put up with Fox all day.
