Greetings from ESTONIA!
I finally had enough and moved over here with goodgirl's family. How are all of you?

I'd be happy to take your questions.

14. Sure is...it's really becoming quite something....centuries old gothic
architecture, and then a super-modern sky scraper right next to it. Old town is still cool as shit. I'm there almost every night. They treat Americans really well here, as long as they don't act like total complete assholes. Some do, though, you know. There are so many super-hot chicks here, man. You can hardly walk down the street without bumping into some hot Estonian girl who looks like she just got done with a photo shoot for Cosmo :)

7. LOL! Seems like there's still a lot of drunken finns...and I saw some
totally trashed Newcastle football fans at a club I sang at last night.

I could not understand a fucking word.

31. When I was there 3 years ago
I asked my cousin how they could tell the Finns apart from the Estos (since they are ethnically and liguistically very close).

Her reply was that the Finns were the ones wandering around drunk at 10 in the morning with big cups of beer in each hand.

Alcohol is much cheaper in Estonia than in Finland, so people go there on weekends to really tie one. It's only a short ferry or plane ride from Finland to Estonia.

9. It's expensive relative to what they make here. The dollar's way down
as if I had to tell you anyway. Used to be you could buy 17kroons for 1$, but now you can only get 12, maybe.

I'm pretty lucky in that I have a day job doing copywriting for websites, and then I get to perform at night.

26. Sounds like fun! I was gonna be a bartender on Tallink, but
I haven't learned enough Estonian yet;)

When we first got married, I was going to teach my wife to play the piano, and she was going to teach me to speak Estonian...

Then we decided we'd rather stay married..

29. Tere! I'm an Estonian-American
Edited on Thu Sep-14-06 09:19 AM by LiberalEsto
and it's always been at the back of my mind to go there if things get worse here. I can claim citizenship through my parents, who were born there, I'm fluent in the language, and I have relatives there.

I'm interested in hearing how you get through the winter -- that's always been a deterrent for me. Hardly any sunlight for days -- it would drive me nuts.

Feel free to PM me if you have any language questions.

Make sure you go to the Estonian House restaurant in Tallinn. The food is great. It's owned by a guy named Viido Polikarpus, a friend of a friend of mine. He grew up in Lakewood, NJ and moved there several years ago. And he's a musician/singer. He and his sister Pia, also a friend of mine, recently recorded a CD together.
