TN Ford Opponent Corker Used Office to Make $4.66mil -LINK

Now we know why Corker has consistently refused to debate Ford for the Senate Seat in Tennessee. Corker as Mayor made more money than all 24 years prior by manufacturing a release by the city council that never happened. The Ford Campaign has the emails and records to prove it.

This has been a front page story for the last two days.

Don't think people in TENN are going to like the fact that the records show Corker gave the impression that the City would release its conservation easement so a road could be paved across it, when the City Council never even considered it, let alone vote to release it. Corker pocketed an easy $4.66 million, and tried to cover it up.

He would have been taking a big chance if he had ever agreed to debate Ford and all this had come up while on television.

It would appear Corker is going down as the details of this come out.

1. Why were Tennessee Repubs stupid enough to nominate Corker?
Edited on Wed Sep-20-06 07:47 PM by Ignacio Upton
He's making this competitive, whereas any other garden variety conservative would be beating Ford by at least 6%-7%. Also...has Corker tried attacking Ford's family's corruption as a way to "neutralize" corruption in this race?

4. The Rove Response? Yep I would expect that, and other made up claims
However, this is front page news, emails to back it up, and best of all there is no explanation for how the land deal could have been approved without the City releasing its conservation easement, and the city council never considered it or approved it.

Kind of a box that Corker is in, wouldn't you say?

5. Because TN repubs aren't too bright!

Just like the rest of them? Ford needs to hit him hard on this and the fact that he hired illegals to work for his company...really step on his neck kinda stuff.

edit: to be fair I have to mention that there are some democrats who have supported Corker in my community for a long time. For some he might not have seemed as scary as Ed Bryant or Van Hilleary.

7. Wow. The Republicans really came up with a questionable candidate
in this one, didn't they?

Partisanship aside, this Corker guy still sounds like an idiot to me.

8. Repub Weakness - They always believe they can hide anything...
... and the truth is it usually comes out.

Who could not have predicted this would blow up in Corker's face?
Easily verifiable by searching public records.
And easily explains why he refused to debate Ford.

Dumb.
