Joe Scarborough: Why do I like this guy (sometimes)?
Joe irritated me endlessly in 2004. He carried water for the Swifties and was a Bushie at his core. But he's just wrapping up a segment on Jon Stewart, and it's very complimentary. He discussed Clinton's interview on Fox and did not buy into the mainstream rightwing hysteria.

He's interesting. He's not particularly predictable. Sorry, but I really do like him.

1. I do too. He's a likable character.
I mainly disagree with him, but he does think outside the RW box.

3. I don't buy it...
I think it's a lame attempt to show how unbiased they are in order to endear themselves to their audience.

Maybe it's working.

5. My take is he's a genuine conservative--not a neocon.
He changed during hurricane Katrina, to his credit

Of course following Keith Olbermann he can't be too complimenty of the Bush adminstration if he wants to retain Keith's audience of die hard liberals.

27. I agree...
During the Hurricane debacle, he inspired me to get involved and i made two trips from Fort Worth with supplies. I think that storm really changed his outlook on Bushco...

It's all a ploy by MSNBC, but at least some of them are seemingly trying to be fair, so I guess I ought to give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

12. What?
He said that Jon Stewart was the rudest person he ever met in his life. He said that at least Stephen Colbert and Bill Maher were polite to him. He did 3 hit pieces on him. That was a fews weeks ago. What happened? I think he got some hate mail. I was waiting for Jon to respond but I never saw him do it. That would make him a flip-flopper.

22. I think that he realized
that he looked like a boorish fool going after Jon Stewart because of his comedy. He said that he could feel the hate coming off Jon Stewart. I wrote him a really mean email, only to delete because I thought it wasn't worth it and I thought why try to prevent him from saying some more shit about Jon. I wanted him to continue because he looked like an idiot. I was so hoping Jon would go after him like he did Novakula. I haven't watched TDS or CR yet, I watch them on weekends. He is Mr. Flip-Flopper now that he sees the way the wind is blowing. He went into politics to get Clinton according to him. He's a slimey bastard. He said that Jon is responsible for the cynism of the young, and how that could be a good thing because they wouldn't vote. He is a small man.

Edited on Wed Sep-27-06 08:31 PM by Rhiannon12866
He absolutely bashed Bush*'s recent 9/11 speech, which got him a few points with me, and I liked his conversations with Ron Reagan, before the election. That's what made me believe that he wasn't Satan, LOL. I generally disagree with him, and have e-mailed the show, but this proves that I can watch him, unlike O'Reilly or Hannity, for example, which would make me scream or slit my wrists, since he sometimes surprises me...:-)

edited for typo:blush:

He was very approachable and would return call/letters. While I disagreed with him, he would explain his position and his logic. He was good for the panhandle.

23. LIKE I SAID LAST YEAR
I met up with him by accident last year when i went to Biloxi (where i lived for a year). It was right after the storm and he was working off the back of a truck and I was working nearby, he looked liked he could have cried a couple times. I recognized him, and up to that point couldnt stand the puke, but wasnt willing to question his motives since i figured they were the same. We talked for a while and i didnt say anything along the line that I knew who he was, but he was pissed and could barely contain it. I watched his show about when i got home a week later and he had changed, he still can shill and is obsessed with hollywood, but you can tell his own right wing christian pres, and government had let him down and he said so.

29. Over time, Joe seems to be moving toward the center on some issues...
I used to utterly dismiss him as yet another complete RW asshole talking head. And he remains totally infuriating at times. :grr:

But I've noticed that, as the months/years have passed, he's been willing to take a more moderate position on many issues -- certainly far more than any Faux talking head would/could do. At the very least, he's proved that he's capable of thinking for himself.

He doesn't get a total pass from me, but I will listen to him with interest when I hear him line up with a moderate-to-liberal stance on something.

30. One thing that has always bugged me about him
is the beginning of his show. It's all about him. All kinds of pictures of him from childhood to now. Maybe it's a pr thing that they came up with to sell his personality, but I don't buy it. I find it sickening and very telling. I am glad though that he has told other republicans to safe themselves.

He's after Olbermann.

His ratings suck.

What do you think he's gonna do, go further to the right?

He's trying to save his show.

37. Joe is an entertainer. He's in a business
He needs an audience.
If marketing told him that he needed to reach out to child molestors as they comprise the largest viewing audience, he'd do it.
So would Rush. So would O'Reilly and Hannity.
It's all about ratings. Money.
And Joe knows his rightwing audience has been divided up among all the talking heads. Plus, they're fatigued by this administration's continual missteps. So...he'd better appear more rational in order to keep his show.
He needs viewers. That's it.
And, judging by your post and others, it's working.
Enjoy. Just don't think the guy is genuine.
He's a product.

38. He is playing the O'lielly game but ...
they play it differently. He tries to pretend that he is balanced but he is the kind of RepubliCON that will suck you in and the closer it gets to the election the more you will see him change. O'lielly tells them that he is looking out for them and he gets certain moderates and libs on the show and then sets them up as liars. But I cracked up, when he had Carville and the guy who he wrote the book with were one on, O'lielly got so mad he called them stupid and carville called the republicons a string of names as they were going to commercial and O'lielly was made as hell...
