Make a list and check it twice. (McCain 08)
This guy isn't acting like he wants to be our President. I think we should start making a list of things we can use against McCain. I got the idea from McCain's comments about Chavez, calling him a "wacko" is absurd and insulting. Yet I fear it will be forgotten by 08. Chavez is the elected leader of a democracy, not only did he insult Chavez, he insulted all that voted for him. He really exposed his ignorance in foreign policy.

McCain also remained silent when Bush 'reserved the right to torture' after the torture bann was passed. We need to tie this hack to the Bush policy he supported, he cannot be allowed to distance himself from Bush.

We also have to ask Bush right before the election if he still thinks McCain is unstable and if he is worried about "his finger on the button" ..just to watch him squirm, It would be a great way of bringing it up and not appear to be attacking McCain

What else ? Lets be ready for this hack.

2. Keating Five
Charlie Keating always took care of his friends, especially those in politics. John McCain was no exception.

In 1982, during McCain's first run for the House, Keating held a fund-raiser for him, collecting more than $11,000 from 40 employees of American Continental Corp. McCain would spend more than $550,000 to win the primary and the general election.

In 1983, during McCain's second House race, Keating hosted a $1,000-a-plate dinner for McCain, though he had no serious competition and coasted into his second term. When McCain pushed for the Senate in 1986, Keating was there with more than $50,000.

By 1987, McCain had received about $112,000 in political contributions from Keating and his associates.

McCain had also carried a little water for Keating in Washington. While in the House, McCain, along with a majority of representatives, co-sponsored a resolution to delay new regulations designed to curb risky investments by thrifts like Lincoln.

3. That's what the Research Forum is for
We should be ready for all the possible opponents. I've started a Research Forum thread on McCain. We can use it to memorialize things like this so that we can actually find the information two years from now, instead of trying to dredge it up from a few million posts.

I suggest that people approach this thread from the point of view of 2008. The day McCain accepts the nomination (if it happens), what would you want to find and read? That means including potentially useful material and including sources for each item. Matters that are prominent now will have been widely forgotten. We (or our successors in 2008) will need to be able to substantiate every allegation.

The McCain thread is titled 2008 Opposition Research: John McCain. I hope this link works:

5. He's only a senator.
Remember...America wants governors and executives to run the executive branch. Senators like John McCain don't have that all-important executive experience.

7. Mccain is like junk food.
It comes in a pretty package but when you start digesting it it makes you ill.
I respect him as a person and as a veteran but I think our country deserves a better leader - like say Wes Clark.
