This is an email I got from my sister about the Wetterling/Bachman debate that was held today in our community. (I was out door knocking.)
The only republican house on my street has taken down their campaign signs. I am not sure if this is a result of Foleygate or not, but they are gone.
I wish I would have taken the camera to the Forum. You come off the main road and as soon as you reach the school property, there is are Wetterling signs like every 10 feet. You turn on to the road which goes to the school, and the signs are stretched as far as the eye can see. At the entrance to the school, people are waving Wetterling signs and the car horns are honking as they drive by.
Someone really worked hard putting up all those signs.
Almost every available space at the entrance to the school is plastered with Wetterling signs. I walked up and there were easily about 30 supporters at the door and right away they came up and asked if I was there to support Wetterling. They gave me stickers and told me to go get a tee shirt inside. There were like 3 Bachmann supporters at the door, and they didn't seem so friendly.
Inside the school the commons area was filled with tables for candidates from city councils to state senators. Lots of people were milling around, most had Wetterling stickers or shirts on.
One thing I did notice is that some of the candidate tables were well stocked, but un-manned. Most noticably, no one was at the Kennedy or Bachmann tables. Wetterling people were at her table, DFL people were at their table. Even Larry Haws was at his table. Even my city council candidate was at his.
Outside when Patty arrived, people picked up their signs and began chanting "Patty Patty Patty!" She was sharply dressed in a nice suit. She went inside and chatted with people. It was a good place for people to chat with the candidates, or at least those candidates who wanted to meet people who might vote for them.
About 15 minutes before the debate, a guy on a microphone was telling people they should go to the auditorium and be seated, since this was being covered BY THE NATIONAL MEDIA. I saw the guy with NPR, but I couldn't identify which networks all those other cameras were with. Bachmann still wasn't there.
Bachmann got there only a few minutes before the starting time. Outside, all of the Wetterling supporters picked up their signs and started chanting "Patty!" again.
Right behind Bachmanns bus, the College Republicans bus. The college kids grab their Bachmann signs, chant "Bachmann", and flank her as she walks thru our group. Like what? She needs a body guard or something? I thought it was too bad that they had to "import" her supporters.
So, everyone files into the auditorium. I didn't go in because I had to go. I could hear them introducing the candidates. Bachmann got applause. But when Patty was introduced, the Auditorium ROCKED. I walked over to the Wetterling table, which, btw, was still manned, and got a sign for Mom and DAD.
MY OBSERVATIONS:
Either there are more Wetterling supporters in this area, or the DFL is just more organized. People in this area aren't as stupid as the RNCC would like them to be.
