skiing in Iran
With all the talk about the potential to the US making war on Iran.
This was refreshing. What a better idea

1. I've done that, years and years and years ago!!
The sky is much bluer over that way...it's the most intense blue I have ever seen. At night it looks like dark blue velvet.

3. I'd planned to do so.... some of my parents' friends
routinely skiied just outside of Teheran when they were living their before the overthrow of the shah... On a visit, I looked at those distant mountains and was very intriqued, but never got the chance.

7. Probably mine now too...
After ankle surgery, I doubt I'd make more than a half day...

Back in the late 70s Iranian skiing meant tow ropes or huffing it up on foot...One had to really be dedicated to go and I think the runs were pretty darned rough... I remember lots of American colleagues of my parents on crutches during one of those seasons...

8. Just north of Tajriz (north of Teheran) there were actual ski LIFTS
Not the rope tows, though they had those too. There was a huge network of them (this was the MID seventies, mind you). They ran throughout the year, because there were a few villages up that way and the villagers would use them as public transportation to get down to Teheran proper--it was something like a toman or two each way. It limited where you could ski if you used them, though.

4. Thanks for posting this. I'm an avid skier and climber . . .
I think I want to go and ski Iran. Good powder, and nice people. Just like you and me. Thanks again for sharing this. More people need to know. Share this with your family and friends.

9. Thanks - (K&R) It reminds us of the Big Lie that tries to put Iranians
Edited on Mon Oct-09-06 12:03 AM by ConsAreLiars
or any of the 'others' as less human. The monsters who rule this world want us to believe that those they will murder are less than human, but the truth is that we all face a common enemy in the corporate powers-that-be. I had the ngood fortune to be invited into a home in Shiraz, during the final days of the US-installed Shah, and the kindness of my hosts kept me from believing the BFEE agitprop. This film may help others also see through that lie.
