LOL - MSNBC is practically banned in the state of Georgia
First off, if you have a hotel room here, it's not on the dial.

Then if you live here and have regular cable, it's not there either.

If you have digital cable, it is way up alone at channel 120, whereas CNNs, FOX, CNBC and the rest are all grouped together in a contiguous block of cable news stations in the 30s.

The blatancy is alarming. But it fits with the character of this modern day antebellum. This is the home of Newt Gingrich, and this is where they made over the KKK into the "kinder gentler" CCC.

3. I had to upgrade to digital cable in order to get MSNBC.
I originally got it just to see Donohue; I kept it so that I can see Keith.

5. If I had to guess
it would be that they were never "Muscled in".

Atlanta is the home of CNN, so that part of it - local favoritism

there would be hell to pay! Now I gotta start asking about their cable channels before I booked a room? Jeesh!!!!

31. You can't count on your hotel cable TV getting MSNBC.
I stayed at a really decent place in Queens once that did not have it--only CNN. Sad!

Of course, I've made it a habit from now on to try to stay only in places that do offer it. It's not something you can take for granted.

8. Depends on which cable/satellite system
you have I think.

Was this Time-Warner? On Adelphia cable Fox and MSNBC were pretty close IIRC. Also on Directv FOX and MSNBC are within two chanels of each other.

13. Screw DirectTV
Know who owns DirectTV? Murdoch...

MSNBC is on channel 38(I think) here in Athens, GA on Charter cable. I'd like to say I knew more but my TV has been unplugged for months. I just couldn't take all of the corporate whoring on television and the bullshit they put on the air and call it "news and entertainment".

15. So what if Murdoch owns DTV and Fox too?
Unless you are going to go out and buy a network to give me an alternative, I don't see the point. I get great news from channels besides Fox on my DTV and I don't see George Soros or Ted Turner willing to give me any alternatives.

I'm not willing to sit in the dark without access to the newss just so I can protest Murdoch.. that's being childish.

Instead of getting so snarky.

Murdoch is the anti-Christ. It's not childish, wanting to protect our media. I won't give him a cent.

21. I would go way out of my way to not support FOX + DTV!
10/6/06
FCC Grants Transfer of Control of Fox Television Stations, Inc. from K. Rupert Murdoch to Fox Entertainment Group, Inc.
http://www.fcc.gov

Murdoch gave up control of fox, but all the news channels are very bought and paid for. He most likly did this for tax purposes. I still think you just have to sit through the lies to get to the truth these days. I would still stay way clear of FOX and DTV though and I don't think it childish at all to not buy and support FOX and DTV as a matter of fact it's rather smart.

29. Childish? lol
If your sole outlet for news and current events is the television you are being sadly left in the dark. There are people and corporations who do things that are against what I believe in and I choose not to support them with my money. You can call me childish for that all you want but in this world of ours where money rules you might want to sit down and think about it. You're knowingly letting Murdoch bend you over and you're okay with it...and you call me childish? lol...

You can watch TV on the internet, www.wwitv.com, or you could READ. The New York Times, LA Times, Le Monde(if you speak french), Washington Post are all great sources for news and information. Your local PBS station is a gold mine!

16. It must depend on what cable co you have. I have Charter,
and CNN is 28, MSNBC is 34, and FOX is 31. I'm only about 35 north of Atlanta, but it looks like the cable in the City is the one playing bias.

18. broadcast TV is not much better
When I was living in Atlanta--which is about as progressive as Georgia gets, mind you--they had CBS with its evil Dan Rather buried somewhere around channel 52 or so. Sure didn't have any problem finding religious-programming stations while I was flipping through the channels looking for 60 Minutes, though.

28. That's something TOTALLY different.
Cable systems can assign any channel to a broadcast regardless of its broadcast frequency. So something that's broadcast on VHF channel 5 might be channel 4 on cable. But the broadcast frequency of a television station on a non-cable set can only be received on the associated VHF or UHF channel. What happened with CBS in Atlanta was that the company that owned the local CBS-affiliated station (VHF channel 5, then) back in the 1990's switched to Fox, so CBS had to find a new affiliate in Atlanta, and settled on UHF channel 46.

24. Here in the Savannah area
The weekly "TV Now" in the Savannah Morning News has show and channel listings for 8 cable systems in the area that are in Georgia. It lists 6 in neighboring parts of SC.

Of the 8 in Georgia, 6 have MSNBC. All 8 have Faux and CNN. So it's not exactly banned, but there are folks that can't get it. BTW, in SC all 6 have CNN, 5 have Faux, only 3 have MSNBC.

Interesting.

27. Call your cable company and gripe, do it EVERY MONTH
when the cable bill arrives!!!

One member of our family is hooked on soaps. That technique worked to get a channel called "Soapnet" on the dial!! It took a while, but a combination of phone calls and emails every month seems to have done the trick!

Considering the censorship, they're doing quite well.
