23. We have some DeVos signs here near the UoM campus
Surprising considering its Ann Arbor but whatever-there are 3 Republicans in the whole of AA but they are very vocal -I believe because they are "oppressed" by the librul university or something :eyes:

Doesn't matter-Dickie is toast....:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

7. Ok, so far DeVos says he's furious ....he looks bad already
Name 3 things you'll do DeVos to invigorate the Mi economy
- Maintain SBT
- Eliminate personal prop. tax for manufacturing
- Increase tourism

Granholm
-Train workers victimized by globalism
-Speed up building contracts
-Diversify economy-invest 2billion
-Provide universal health care

Granholm- What would you be in favor of universal health care
-Has already proposed universal for 550,000 citizens
-No frills benefit package in sliding scale for those who rise above the current cap w/o ins.
-Partner with Fed's to assure health care for all/allow private sector to administer
-MIRx card

DeVos rebuttle response
-No positive answer to universal health care/"best way to get health care is to have a job"

Granholm response
-Almost 900,000 people have jobs in Mi but do not have health care/points out Amway hires part time or temp workers who then do not qualify for health ins.

Question for DeVos/Do you support negative advertising in campaigns? (Duh!)
-Not familiar with negative ad's cited, wants Mi. to work together, more slams at G. about leadership, jobs to China....you get the idea...
-"This state deserves a discussion on these (economic) issues"

G.- Why is it ok for state to give tax breaks but not ok for business like Scamway to seek a tax break such as the 19 million tax break that was given to Scamway following a 1 million donation to republican party
-Answer/ companies who recieve tax breaks in Mi are expected to maintain or create jobs in Mi---Not China
D.- Claims that there was no tax break, claims Levin signed legislation that demanded that businsess invest internationally

DeVos asked about vouchers....
-DeVos continues to contribute to groups in the country that support vouchers/school choice. Still supports school choice, but not vouchers, goes on with rhetoric about merit pay, need to consider innovation (NCLB already makes parental choice a reality so this is a no brainer folks)
Claims G. cut funding for public education. Factually untrue.
-G. asserts new curriculum requirements, scholarships, and funding for Mi. schools. Cites that DeVos is still giving speeches supporting vouchers
-D. Says he will not bring vouchers to Mi. Guess who will?

Granholm asked about her efforts re: Auto makers/How can you help?
-Cited that she had hed a summit with auto and other manufacturers
-Signed personal property tax for manuf. worth 600million to business
-Lobbied the federal gov't about concessions from Bush admin./ nada action by Bush admin.
-Mi. manufact. supported G. and her efforts

D. rebuts with the obvious/jobs leaving the state
-Claims state punishes manuf. with tax on equipment, followed by more speechifying about leadership

29. I hope not too but do worry about election fraud
Terri Land as SOS, Betsy's best buddy Rove and millions given to GOP by DeVos & family, Optical scanning equipment used in Ohio vote stealing. It's a recipe I don't like. I am certainly hoping for the best, but it goes without saying I don't trust who we're dealing with.

10. he is an ASS
We already have schools of choice in Michigan. Your child can go to any public or charter (sponsored by universities/other educational entities) that they want if said school has room to let them in. All students get the same $ funding regardless of address. So what he is saying is that he wants private/parochial education above and beyond. These schools cost more than the $ allotted to students. Help the rich campaign.

What is funny is that a lot of Republicans can't stand him either. We all hate the whole Scamway scheme.

Oh here's the abortion question:

Overturn R vs. W in MI? Says he won't change current laws, except for partial birth abortions. But goes off on his pro-life views.

12. Continuing....
-DeVos claims that opponents bend truth....that Bush admin. will meet b/c of DeVos, not G.
Claims G. responsible for loss of jobs.

-G. claims lack of awareness of this so called meeting with Bush admin. and "does not believe it is true" (Like who cares, Bush will do nothing for Mi.)

-D. has to come clean and admit the "meeting" is after the election as G. asserted

-G. asked, are we better off than 4 years ago. (Well we were in debt up to our eyeballs and we are much less so now so I think we are) G. brings to the fore, multi-diverse plans for energy diversification (9 bio-fuel plants coming to Mi)First round of funds now creating jobs (3000)
-D. gloom and doom, consistent pattern of nothing happening, going into lack of social services going back to 1994...etc.etc.
-G. reminding viewers that Mi. economy has been dep. on auto indus. for 100 years and change will not be overnight

-DeVos asked if he will sign on with a 20% increase in bio-fuel use for private and public sectors in Mi. DeVos says we can't do it fast enough, then criticizes G. for not being fast enough to change Mi into renewable energy. Says other states farther ahead than us and that G. does not have a plan
-G. A state energy plan is now available and G. plans to bring in companies like United Solar Alliance in Greenville and other areas.

-G. asked about illegal immigrants and free services. Will G. support stiffer penalties against immigrants and employers who hire them
-G. supports laws, supports wall at US border, supports the Bush plan for earning legal entry and citizenship
-D. supports penalties for employers who hire and those who have false papers, goes into attack on governor for fewer officers in Mi. Implication/G. has left Mi. less safe
-G. cites that she has had to resolve more government debt than any other gov. in the country, wants to know from D. how he will refund the SBT money ---a billion dollar deficit-----No answer

-D. asked about abortion/If a bill came to your desk that limited abortion further would you sign it---claims current laws are sufficient (just lost the pro-life vote asshole)Then goes on to say he would ban partial birth abortion
-G.would not sign bill that is unconstitutional, in favor of stem cell research
-D. partial birth abortion is unacceptable regardless of pregnancy circumstances

-Both asked about is the right tone being set in this campaign, are people of Mi. being served
-G. talks about economy, promotes her agenda w/examples of change-- pretty much dodges question
-D. as expected, complaints about G., Democrats, who's naughty, who's nice....snoozing

13. Closing statements
D. Mi doom and gloom/hammering the negatives/jobs, people leaving, and "all during this governor's watch" Time to make a change, sever the relationship, fire the governor, people of Mi. deserve a change, are you better off today than four years ago

G. asks is DeVos is better off than four years ago and then cites gains for Scamway, business in China, cites her lobbying for Mi in business in Fed's, wants fair trade and trade aggreements that the Bush admin. should stand by,

Demeanor Quotient
DeVos=Wimpy and whiney

Granholm=Forthright and passionate

She won again...

17. HA HA -only two people from the studio audience thought DeLoss won
I would estimate that about 60% of those there said she won no? And about 30% undecided?

Of course the sample set wasn't very large but still.....

People run around looking like Ann Coulter look alikes, drunk on what if's, and bedding down with whomever can make them more money. Its a very strange scene. I've always wondered why 60 Minutes hasn't covered their business cult like jamborees.

31. I thought Granholm was strong...
Devos just seems to run on the same old, stale air. "Michigan deserves a change" even my mom mentioned that he says that alot. It just seemed to me that DeVos's answers were manufactured. Also he seemed to slam the Governor quite a bit. I haven't seen Granholm really slam him.

I really honestly think that Granholm is going to win.

32. Granholm was Fabulous Again
This was fun--Granholm was intelligent, organized and clear, again, answered the questions and was friendly and likeable, again, and this time you had good questions, especially from Mike Wendland, a real reporter. Best of all, DeVos is getting weirder, DeVos seems to be going insane; and comes across as a sleazy crook even more this time than the last time. Even more of a breeze than the first debate, when she (and we) were hampered by the asshole Tim Skubick. Granholm can only be helped by being questioned, and DeVos can only be hurt by it, like some cultist being exposed.
