The Twilight Zone of the Fundie Mind (LTTEs to make you scrrreeeam!)
Edited on Tue Oct-24-06 07:08 AM by theHandpuppet
You know it must be the season of Halloween when Talibornagain zombies like these emerge from the pumpkin patch to inundate the local papers with LTTEs such as the ones I'll be posting below. These are some samples of today's LTTEs from the Portsmouth (Ohio) Daily Times. Portsmouth is the county seat of Scioto, the easternmost county in Jean Schmidt's district. (Don't be fooled, however; Scioto County went for Hackett by a 65-35% margin in the last election, but the rural fundie churches are very organized and active in the Ohio Restoration Project.)

Before you begin, remember that the only issues that matter are God, gays and abortion. Torture, mass murder, lying, pederasty, fraud, abandonment of the elderly, the sick, the poor and the veteran do not qualify as issues of morality, no matter what Jesus said. You may now proceed.

Letter #1:

‘Choice' of abortion can affect many things, cause other problems

Remember the story of Adam and Eve from the Bible, Genesis chapters 2-3? God told them not to eat from the fruit in the center of the beautiful garden. They knew not to do this, yet they did it anyway, because they listened to the serpent. Sound familiar? Then they realized they were naked and had to make cloths from the leaves of the trees.

And so, in the early 1970's, interest rates were good, there was low unemployment and new business. Well, after 1973, Roe versus Wade, things changed and are still changing, going downhill. People say it's the economy. No, God can take care of the economy ... it's the abortions. Stop the murder of our little babies, not fetuses, so God again will smile on our country.... MORE

Letter #2:

Ohio woman compares, contrasts gubernatorial candidates on morality

Over the years, I've had several conversations about the issues with gubernatorial candidate Ted Strickland. He seems like a nice man and comes across well.

But I am troubled by many of his votes in Congress and by the groups who are endorsing him.

Strickland voted against protecting the words “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance. He voted against displays of the Ten Commandments in schools and government buildings.

Strickland's votes in favor of gay rights recently earned him the support of a homosexual group called Stonewall Democrats. They hosted a gay fundraiser for Ted in Columbus.... MORE

Letter #3:

Strickland's voting record based on Christian values is questioned

In Revelation 2:2, Jesus commended the church for testing people who came in his name wanting to lead them, to make sure they were really his disciples.

Ted Strickland wants to lead our state and tries to get the Christian vote as an ordained minister. Before we decide to vote for him, we should obey God's word and test what Strickland really believes.

Congressman Strickland is endorsed by the pro-abortion group, N.A.R.A.L., and promised to veto any pro-life legislation if elected.

He voted against making it a crime to harm an unborn baby while committing another crime.

He voted for tax dollars paying for abortions in other countries. He voted for killing the unborn for their stem cells, and against banning human cloning.

Strickland also voted against banning gay marriages and adoption, against Ten Commandment displays, against prayer or other displays of faith in public places such as schools, against “under God” in the Pledge and against school vouchers that would let poor families send their children to better schools.... They are nuts.

Btw considering all these points that were mentioned, Strickland seems to be a good candidate.

2. AAIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! My brain!
Ouch those people are PAINFUL to read.

"God can take care of the economy..."

"Strickland seems like a nice man..."(if only he hadn't voted for secularism and the "gay agenda")

Revelation is a bogus piece to cite...Jesus isn't quoted anywhere in it. Jesus also said "Render unto Caesar..." Jesus also said a great deal of good stuff, primarily contained in The Beatitudes, which if these crackpots quoted as often as they misquote the rest of Bible, or quoted the Ten Commandments, I'd be far more inclined to listen to them, and the country might actually be a better place:

"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are the hungry, for they shall be filled.
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

That, and a little "Do Unto Others..." rather than "an eye for an eye" would go a long way, IMO.

But these LTTE writers? What a bunch of crackpots! Unfortunately, America seems to be full of ignorant, twisted, easily-led crackpots. True Christians get lost in the noise-to-sound ratio that currently exists.

Required disclaimer: I'm a collapsed Catholic (who spent a fair amount of free time as a child actually reading the Bible out of sheer curiosity), one time atheist, generally agnostic, part-time pagan, ask-me-next-week-what-I-believe-in-IST. :) I'm against organized religion generally; not against religious (or more properly, spiritual) people. I count the latter among my friends.

3. Gee, 1973, abortion became legal, the economy went to hell
I'm sure that Abortion caused Richard Nixon to resign, too :eyes:

Hey, wasn't there some sort of GAS CRISIS that Republicans ignored once they had Reagan in charge?

I guess Roe v Wade caused George W. Bush to do business with Osama bin Laden's family, too ...

4. Hey maybe they have a point
After R v. W, we got both Ronnie Raygun and Torture W...The only thing this means is that God must REALLY hate us, to give us such "leaders". I mean, wern't both "appointed" by God?

:sarcasm:

6. Ohio should have a Panel of Intelligent, Perceptive voting "Police"...
...and send these people a Letter:
Dear Voter...Your Voting privileges have been rescinded. After reading your letter to the Editor, We had determined
that you are a complete dumb-ass and hereby have also determined that
you are to fucking stupid to vote.

8. Here's another one, from today's edition
Like I said, God, gays and abortion. Let the screaming commence!

http://www.portsmouth-dailytimes.com/articles/2006/10/25/news/letters_to_the_editor/1letters_separation.txt

Reader says there should be no separation of church and state

I have read articles recently stating that Republicans are losing their grip on the religious public. Before I go any further, let me say that if Ted Strickland would take a moral stand against abortion and for marriage as being between one man and one woman, then I would consider voting for him. However he does not, which I have trouble understanding because he says that he is a former minister.

By losing their hold on the religious public, does this mean the religious public isn't voting this year? Is it possible for a Christian to vote for a liberal?

(snipping)

Here is what we can expect if liberals get elected: a push to have gay marriage legal in every state, only liberal judges will be appointed and they will create laws to implement the social agenda liberals cannot get passed through the legislative process, they will make the killing (murder) of the unborn more difficult to stop, to rid society of the Christian influence, including any reference to God in our pledge and on our currency (as Ted has already voted to do), passing new hate “crime laws” making it illegal to refer to homosexuality in a negative manner, even in churches.

You may choose to turn a blind eye to it, but that is exactly why we are in the situations we are today. Little by little, God has got pushed aside and evil has expanded its territory not just in society, but in our own lives by walking hand in hand with ungodly living.

There is no separation of church and state (except at the rapture) the word of God has to be the only way and the only rule in our lives.

MORE, including lots of scripture.
