Speaker Hastert Comments on Democrat Leader Pelosi's War on Terror Views from 60 Minutes Interview

WASHINGTON, Oct. 24 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Speaker of the House J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) today issued the following statement regarding Democrat Leader Nancy Pelosi's comments on 60 Minutes this weekend:

"The current battle being waged to protect America's freedom and the freedom of millions around the world is called the Global War on Terror. It is not fought in just one country. It is not even fought in one hemisphere. It is fought on a global scale. That is why Democrat Leader Nancy Pelosi's comments are irresponsible. Is the Democrat Minority Leader really turning a blind eye towards the countless number of terrorists that we are fighting in the streets and battlefields of Iraq and also in numerous countries around the world? Does she forget the nearly 3,000 victims of September 11th? The 201 victims of the Madrid train bombings? And the 52 victims of the London bomb attacks? These were all innocent victims of the Global War on Terror. And what about the countless others who have been saved because of our efforts?

"The Minority Leader continued with her comments to say that terrorists are in Iraq because America is there and that the threats would disappear if we were to leave. She could not be further from reality. If the United States had not brought the fight to foreign soil, terrorists wouldn't disappear -- they would deploy to the United States. This President and this Congress have chosen to go on the offensive and take the fight to the terrorists before we have to fight them in American neighborhoods.

"These comments should act as a bellwether for the American people. One cannot win the Global War on Terror if one does not understand it. If it were up to a Democrat majority, it would cut and run from the Global War on Terror, continue to coddle terrorists, create a United States Department of Peace (See Note) and call it a day. Democrat Leader Pelosi would trust the terrorists to give up their objective and play nice in exchange for the United States leaving Iraq. This outlook is foolish, naive and dangerous."

A nation destroyed.

A nation invaded & occupied.

INVADED. (To think America would become an invader...still shocks me.)

A nation that hadn't been doing anything to anyone.

Or did hastert forget all that?

5. Americans do have short attention spans
in fact, wouldn't be surprised to hear folks say "Katrina who?"
When was the last time you heard about THAT outside of a blog or political site?
Anyway, I think most people will agree that 911 is SO yesterday.
It doesn't pull the same heartstrings it once did. The flags that were proudly displayed on many vehicles are either gone or tattered from being left too long.
As much as Bushco tries to politicize 911, it doesn't have the effect it once did.
However, the rhetoric will ramp up about 911 prior to election day, we will most likely have a couple of color changes, possibly another #3 Al Quaeda guy captured or a thwarted attack somewhere, and country music stations will place God Bless the USA and Do You Remember as well as the Toby Keith song about a boot in your ass...in hot rotation.
It's all about controlling the masses.
People don't think about it as much as the politicians, so they will need some reminding.

8. Weren't there a couple thousand Katrina victims on Hastert's watch?
I seem to recall there were... Someone must've had a land deal in the works.

7. Does Hastert remember who was in charge of security that day?
It amazes me how the people don't see the republicans for the complete failures they are.

They did absolutely nothing against terrorism. Like Richard Clarke said, they didn't have one single meeting about Bin Laden, even after numerous and urgent requests.

12. So why aren't the patriotic, tough, freedom-loving young Repukniconvicts
flooding the recruiting offices to sign up to fight in the "war"?

I'm sure they'd show their manhood well, then ... (yes, manhood ... because repukes hate the idea that women can serve in the military ... well, maybe except Jessica Lynch, but she failed to be the bright shining poster girl for why we're there ...)
