The truth is that no one knows what is going to happen...
...in the coming election. The polls are snapshots that can change overnight with one news story or another. This is a very volatile election. Your gut feelings are probably as true as any poll out there. It seems to me that the Repubs have written off the House already. They are clinging to the Senate in two or three states and they are focused on winning those at any price.

Karl Rove has no grand strategy. Governor Dean has no grand strategy. The Republicans, in announcing their Iraq policy as one of "adapting to change", were in reality, announcing their political strategy. "Adapting to change" is reacting to the ground moving under your feet. You must move or you will be swallowed up and buried in the earthquake. That is where the Republicans stand.

The Republicans are running from George W Bush and his policies. They wish to make it a Democratic vs Republican election. By playing to Party loyalties, they hope the voters will ignore the bigger failed issues. Simplify it to Dem vs Repub and the Republicans do much better. Point out the disastrous polices of George W Bush with the war in Iraq, Hurricane Katrina, Social Security privatization, the huge debt and deficits, and immigration and the Republicans do not do so well.

1. I disagree with the "Dean has no grand strategy" concept

Dr Dean has a "50 State Strategy" which he has meticulously planned and implemented.

3. The reason no one knows is that we don't have a democracy.
Since the vote is counted in total secrecy without verification (often without even the possibility of verification), there's no reason to have confidence in any electronic vote count. And if you can't have at least some measure of confidence in the authenticity of the count, you can't have a democracy.

This is the essential problem. Polls vary of course depending on who does the poll, when it's done, how well adjustments are made to account for variations in voting patterns, what the sampling errors might be, etc. But as things now stand, the polls, particularly the exit polls, are probably a lot more accurate than the electronic results.

4. Since my candidate for Gov. in my state DID WIN
last year, it does make me hopeful that at least my district or voting area might be lawful, but maybe the thieves don't care about governors as much as Congress- well- duh!
