Can you PLEASE knock off the "We're gonna lose"...
...threads for a while?

We KNEW that the presstitutes would be out there pimping for their masters.

We KNEW that the only voices that would be heard out there would be rethuglican ones.

We KNEW that the only faces seen on TV would be repignicans.

We KNEW that the Junta would be doing their worst.

We KNEW that we Democrats were going to get ridiculed, lambasted, slandered and attacked, and you know what? It hasn't changed the polls. The American people have finally, at long goddamned last had ENOUGH of the giggling, psycopathic torturer in the WH. They have finally had enough of the bribery, corruption and perversion of the Geriatric Old Pedophile party and they are ready to throw them out.

55% of those likely to vote surveyed by Newsweek magazine said they want the Democratic party in control. They could only muster 32% that feel the same way about the retardlicans.

32%.

That's their base.

You know, the knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing, fag-hating, God-loving, flag-worshipping, A-Rab-hatin' morans that they ALWAYS pander to. What's so significant about that number today, two weeks before the election? It tells us that the base is all they have. The "independents" are no longer buying the bullshit. The Democrats are more together than they have been in years, and the ONLY hope for the future war-criminals in the WH is to energize their base away from Monster-Truck Pulls and Pat Roberston long enough to get them to vote.

THAT'S why their ads are so hateful and negative. They have nothing left. Fear is no longer working for them. So they have to appeal to the most base of political and human instincts, hate.

And when you have to use hate you have already lost.

We WILL win in two weeks time.

We WILL take back the House.

We WILL take back the Senate.

We WILL restore some form of integrity, honour and legitimacy to this great country by throwing off the shackles of the illegitimate regime that has for too long kept us quiet and subdued.

We WILL end the nightmare that is Iraq, get our boys and girls home, and PROSECUTE those that committed crimes, ALL the way up the ladder.

We WILL get serious about securing the borders.

We WILL get serious about cutting the deficit, holding those pork-barrel spenders accountable, and reversing the tax-gifts to the republican elite.

We WILL do all of this on Tuesday Novemeber 7th, 2006, and I don't want to hear a word otherwise.

We WILL make it happen by being positive, upbeat, focussed and determined.

We KNEW the deck was going to be stacked against us, but THIS time we WILL succeed, if we pull together and give it our all.

Just this once, the electorate are so enraged that even Diebold can't help the repedophiles. Once we take the Congress, we have a chance to start repairing our election systems, beginning with banning vapor-voting machines.

I don't even read the defeatist threads -- they are energy vampires, sucking any positive feelings and energies I have, so I just don't read 'em. I feel VERY optimistic about November 7th, and want to keep that optimism. And I use the optimism to help candidates, help get out the vote, help register people to vote, etc. If everyone were to take a defeatest attitude, well, WE would be the ones to harm the Dems' chances. I'm not going down that road.

72. I'm not worried
We have volume on our side, bro :) '00 and '04, things i nthe polls were fairly even. Fear of turrists was high, and the Republicans were real good at keeping their woman-abusing, brown-skin-hating, pedophiliac natures hidden.

They don't have any of that going for them. Even theri hate rhetoric against Democrats, their standard method, is getting no traction except with those people who would never vote for anyone else anyway.

Diebold can suck my nut. We're gonna flood those machines with so many votes that htey won't possibly be able to swap 'em all.

The grasshopper and the ant

The ant spent all summer preparing for winter. He worked hard, while the grasshopper played and sang. One day, early in November, winter came. The ant was prepared. The grasshopper was not. So the grasshopper ate the ant.

35. be positive, but be prepared for the worst
I will not say we are going to lose, but I will say that people need to campaign real hard if they want to have a real chance at success.

The Republicans have Diebold. Stating that fact is not defeatism, it is merely pointing out reality.

The good news is that Diebold CAN be defeated, it just requires people to WORK EXTRA HARD.

Being too optimistic is NOT a good thing, as it makes people complacent. It is best to always keep your expectations low, just don't lower them so much that it makes people give up hope. Right now we have a lot of hope, but too much optimism could make people believe they can just sit back because they "know" they will win anyways.

I bet we export viruses. Wouldn't doubt it for a moment.

My choice for most important race is Debra Bowen for SOS here in CA. She's the quintessential Ur-Diebold. They're funding most of the campaign against her -- if she wins (she's leading), electronic voting will not re-emerge in this state without being made utterly verifiable. I've seen her in action, at a hearing in Sacramento. She grilled McPherson's little stooge, William Wood, for hours -- and made it clear that she considers the whole setup to be criminal. I'm rooting. I'm hoping. She should be governor, actually. Rare to find that kind of person in politics.

whine and moan, which would put a real damper on any and all action we could take to try and make this time different. I know that I am not ignoring the very REAL possiblity of vote fraud, and voter suppresion and oppression. I just think I can do more if I keep the energy positive than if I give in to a lot of defeatist, negative thinking.

52. Yes--To all the naysayers

As Greg Palast says: MAKE them steal your vote. Don't just declare futility and not vote.

53. The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior.
No one has answered my repeated question of why the repugs
would suddenly get honest.

And let us not overestimate the intelligence of the American people.
Whether they have finally wised up remains to be seen.

58. exactly
but don't try to inject reality into these innocent, positive, delusional people.

They expect the votes to be counted honestly on Nov 7. THEY WON'T. And Americans will accept the theft once more. Save this thread.

65. I'm certain we won't "lose." But I'm afraid we won't win.
These fuckers play for keeps. Pure evil at work. I almost think it's better that we don't have our hopes up TOO high...I'd hate to see a mass DU suicide on November 8

66. It's not a question of hope
Hope implies that we're talking about something outside our control, which I feel is inherently defeatist. Like Derrick Jensen said:
I'm not, for example, going to say I hope I eat something tomorrow. I just will. I don't hope I take another breath right now, nor that I finish writing this sentence. I just do them. On the other hand, I do hope that the next time I get on a plane, it doesn't crash. To hope for some result means you have given up any agency concerning it. Many people say they hope the dominant culture stops destroying the world. By saying that, they've assumed that the destruction will continue, at least in the short term, and they've stepped away from their own ability to participate in stopping it.

I believe what we need to do here is look squarely at the real obstacles and work out what we will do about them. Any other course of action is about as ineffective as a yellow jacket banging against the window all day long trying to get outside until it dies. As they say, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, yet expecting different results.

Yes, the Rethugs have done, are doing, and will continue to do everything they can to rob us. Yes, they have rigged and will continue to rig the electronic voting. Yes, they have used and will use voter roll purging, disinformation and intimidation to suppress the Democratic vote. They cannot be expected to play by the rules. Acknowledging this is not defeatism.

Failing to respond to those threats is defeatism. Blind cheerleading without tackling these obstacles, believing that simply getting out the vote and remaining positive will lead to victory, is the worst kind of naiveté.

So, to be more concrete about this: I believe we need to take inventory of all our connections and all our skills, then do every single thing we possibly can to gain access, to monitor, to verify, to expose. Organized, in large numbers.

As much of a nutjob as Bev Harris turned out to be, I think she was on the right track with this.

we have to stop our defeatist attitude. and then on the other hand we have to stay a couple of steps ahead of them. Who is more desperate than the repigs now, they are grasping for straws.
