How much longer will our system be broken
and how much longer are you willing to put up with it being broken? I was just wondering because it seems people are perfectly content with acting like its an election year of the pre-bush era variety as if living in a different reality.

1. We're Playing With A Rigged Deck
I fear that regardless of the hand we feel we're holding, if the game is truly FIXED, then we're always going to get beaten in the end.

I sincerely hope that I'm wrong. If the Dems take the House & Senate in 2 weeks, then it will restore a great deal of faith in the process.

If they lose both houses, in some miraculous last minute comeback by the repubs, then I will begin to seriously consider life in another country, beyond the confines of what will have become a Banana Republic, with a sad future indeed.

I expect more of the push, with the Dems winning the House, but losing the Senate. This may be the best repubs are shooting for, and if so, you can be assured they will make 100% certain they hold onto the Senate with a comfortable enough margin for their agenda.

2. When Stephanie Miller Replaces OxyRush
Edited on Tue Oct-24-06 08:44 PM by MannyGoldstein
Rush was always evil - at least he used to be funny. Stephanie's not evil, but very funny. Seems like a good switch.

As to our system being broken - it's been broken for 30 or so years, more so recently. It'll take a while to get back. Don't hold your breath.

3. When mama replaces Rush
the universe will be back in proper order. As far as I'm concerned, she has. She's been getting a lot of face time lately on TV as well.

4. The "system" isn't broken. It's doing exactly what many people want it to.

You should read some HISTORY (Zinn, Eric Foner, Parenti and others).

5. I'm pretty familiar with history. So shoot. What do you mean it
isn't broken? Because we've had bad eras in the past when it was broken also?

6. I have to agree with Nozebro but
I'm not going to admonish you about reading history. I unfortunately believe that the US Federal Government does more harm than good. I am still undecided if Government is axiomatically bad. I do believe that for whatever reason when politicians reach the level of Congress or the WH they are willing to make aswhatever bargain which keeps them in power and will compromise their values to reatin their position.

And you can apply the writings of Polybius to the American Government of today as easily as that of Rome from 2000 years ago.

7. Without habeas corpus, the threat today is deep
given modern technology and the military industrial complex. A population doesn't have to accept that which threatens it.
