they did not pull any punches when showing wounds... but as already pointed out the actual battle is not the focus of the story.

6. Yesterday, I finished "listening" to it via Audible.com
I have it loaded into my pdaphone, so it's always accessible. I had just turned 15 during that battle of Iwo Jima, and believe me, interest in that war by us kidz, was very strong. We DEVOURED every scrap of news. Still, there was so much of that battle and that war that I didn't realize until now.

One thought that constantly crossed my mind during all the descriptions of that historic flag raising was this: How that treacherous Bush gang of FUCKING Chickenhawks had CHEAPENED it's memory with that hokey "toppling Saddam's statue" scene in Baghdad. NEVER forgive them for that!

7. Trust me, I don't think any of us will
There were several things said in the movie that are true, but NONE of them chickenhawks will even get them
