Yesterday, Senator Ted Kennedy and I told our colleagues that we supported a filibuster of Judge Alito’s nomination for the Supreme Court. And we weren’t alone. But the bottom line is that it takes more than two or three people to filibuster successfully. It’s not “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.” If you want to stop Judge Alito from becoming Justice Alito, use your own email list and organize. We can’t just preach to our own choir. We need to prove to everyone – from our friends and neighbors to our fellow Senators – that the American people know Judge Alito will take our country in the wrong direction, and they expect something to be done about it.

So I’m asking you to join Senator Kennedy, me, and concerned citizens across America who are signing this petition to support a filibuster. If there was ever a time to forward an email on to friends and family, this is it. One way or another, we’re going to find out in the next few days if Judge Alito is going to become Justice Alito. 17. Did you think they'd actually do it?

You know Kerry wouldn't have announced a filibuster if he didn't have the votes. Right now, they're going to spend a few more days whipping up the base into a tizzy and then dare Frist to go Nuclear. The Neo-Cons won't have the votes to change the rules, I can guarantee you that. This is going to be one hell of a show. I can't believe they're actually doing it.

... a point of recognizing that they had no choice but to act, boldly and persistently, to save the Nation from the gravest threat it has faced since the day Jeff Davis resigned from the Senate on 21 January 1861, to lead the Confederacy. Bush and the neoconsters are the traitors and are much further down the path of destroying everything the Republic represents than the Confederacy.

I think they are beginning to realize how potent and unrelenting their "base" is, as well.

Thank you John for taking this needed stand. The important thing to note is that a fillibuster is within the Democratic Party's power to do, provided they all work together. This vote isn't just about the importance of keeping Alito off the bench (which I think is one of the most important votes in our lifetimes), but also the turning point for the Democratic Party on whether it will be the progressive opposition party for the future. I can say CONFIDENTLY, that if no fillibuster is taken, that will be a no confidence vote being given for the Democratic Party to function as our voice in the future. We will be looking for another party structure to serve us if it isn't going to fight when the most important fight is in front of us. This is it folks! This is what perhaps turns you into the Whigs of old, or turns you into the new majority party in 2006 and 2008, and keeping in place our Democratic form of government. Not even sure if I won't go to Canada for a more Democratic Government...
