How did the remains from the flight attendant get in the NY sewer?

???

Officials have said the manhole had been paved over and forgotten when a service road was built there in the midst of excavating the Twin Towers' rubble.

After the discovery, city officials identified about 10 more manholes and pockets under the road and ordered them to be excavated immediately and sifted for remains.

The work involves tearing up parts of side streets, exploring the rooftops of selected buildings near the 16-acre site and excavating more manholes beyond the dozen the city is already exploring.

The newly identified remains belonged to flight attendant Karen Martin of Danvers, Mass.; Douglas Stone of Dover, N.H.; and a man whose family asked that his name not be released, said Ellen Borakove, a spokeswoman for the medical examiner's office.

3. They weren't cleaned out before being covered
They were quickly covered so to be able to excavate WTC debris. They weren't checked and cleaned beforehand.

7. Horrific as it sounds
Think about the impact and what happens to any mass on board the object doing the impacting and where that mass would end up in relation the the object being impacted.....

Though I could be wrong, the thought makes me sick to think about.

9. I had assumed the planes --and all onboard -- were totally incinerated
Apparently, that was not the case. What a terrible way to find out. :(

10. Like I said
I could be wrong...but if I am not, sadly that would seem to be the only explanation for this.

11. I feel bad for raising the question. I'm a 'logical explanation' kind of person
Still seems bizzare.

12. IMO
you shouldn't feel bad at all. The event happened and its human to want to explore why even the smallest detail related to it is valid. I believe that is how we make sense of things that make no sense.

My wife and I both asked the same question when we heard where the remains were found. I recalled hearing stories, and even seeing a video in a 9/11 documentary of pieces of those planes being found blocks away from the WTC. Its only logical to suggest that.....

13. It rained debris in Brooklyn
I remember watching local reports of people finding things on the streets there also. It was a great big mushroom cloud which didn't just go straight down. Theoretically, gruesome as it may sound, remains might even be found in a very wide radius, not just at Ground Zero.

So, so sad for the families and friends.
