Religious Rightwingers LIE ABOUT GAY PEOPLE
Their entire movement is based on LIES.

They demonize an entire subset of human beings to fill their coffers and to push a political agenda that keeps them in a position of power and influence, all just to bring them even more money.

Thus, when it is revealed that one of them is, indeed, gay or bisexual, the dynamic is not just about the "outing" of that individual.

It is not just about exposing the hypocrisy, though that is certainly important in a political sense.

For gay people, it goes much deeper.

Every time one of these fuckers gets exposed it EXPOSES THE FACT THAT THE ENTIRE RELIGIOUS RIGHTWING WAR AGAINST GAYS IS BASED ON LIES.

We are not the "sinners" they pathetically claim we are. They are the same as us.

We are not depraved people looking to recruit their children. They are the same as us.

We have no "agenda" other than equality. They are the same as us.

We fall in love and partner up and have the same strengths and frailties everyone else us does. They are the same as us.

When it is demonstrated that there are plenty of gays and lesbians amongst THEIR ranks, it shoots a cannon hole in their entire premise and exposes the falsehoods in their political advocacy.

When one of them is shown to be gay, straight people see the hypocrisy, but gay people see VINDICATION.

Because, it pulls back the curtain and shows the world quite clearly... THEIR ENTIRE MOVEMENT IS BASED ON LIES.

1. The gay issue seems to be a male thing. Men in general seem
to be afraid of gays and do a lot against them to prove they are "staight". Even in the 60's, guys would get hit on by other men and they would attack them. You don't see women lyning lesbians. We sort of like gay men too. You can have a conversation with a man, go on trip with him, and not worry about him only wanting one thing. At least from us.

2. Well said.

I've worked with families as members come out -- once in awhile, after the shock, someone says, "why, I've been taught a bunch of lies." And like you said, the curtain opens to understanding.

Once in awhile.

3. Let's Keep This Simple
We can compile a list of all of the things that right wingers, religious or not, DON'T lie about.

I can't think of any - but I'll keep trying.

we could put out a little, entirely blank book called Famous Rightwing Truths and make a bundle.

5. Good post.
However, you were being kind when you said "straight people see the hypocrisy". Sadly, as I have noticed here on the DU during the post Foley period, too many straight people don't see the hypocrisy - they saw "invasion of privacy".

That said, I noticed that some folks who initially reacted to outing as a bad thing (an invasion of privacy) did eventually come to understand that the issue is indeed hypocrisy. Of the straight folk that engaged in the dialog some eventually also seemed to understand that it is up to the gay community if we decide to purge the bad actors.

8. I see the "invasion of privacy thing"
as just a lame cover for subliminal, or more overt, homophobia.

If one lives in the reality that there is no moral difference between being gay or straight, and one understands that sexual/affectional orientation determines adult family structure (i.e. it is far more than just sex), then the entire "invasion of privacy" argument collapses, as every destructive double standard should.

7. Must suck to be living a complete lie.
Not just in your private life, but publicly to be making $ by hurting a whole class of people really is despicable. I have no sympathy for these hypocrites who are of the highest order.
