69. Hahaa! I just read this in the Vanity Fair article...
Edited on Sat Nov-04-06 01:30 PM by 8_year_nightmare
Kenneth Adelman: "The most dispiriting and awful moment of the whole administration was the day that Bush gave the Presidential Medal of Freedom to George Tenet, General Tommy Franks, and Jerry Bremer—three of the most incompetent people who've ever served in such key spots. And they get the highest civilian honor a president can bestow on anyone! That was the day I checked out of this administration. It was then I thought, There's no seriousness here, these are not serious people. If he had been serious, the president would have realized that those three are each directly responsible for the disaster of Iraq."

I think he would agree that you & all the whistleblowers should collectively receive this award; you might have to settle for the Congressional Medal of Freedom Award when the Democrats take over, however. ;)

You can read the Vanity Fair article here

4. yes!

David A. Smith said in a filing with the SEC in September that he mistakenly received e-mails from a company attorney on how to handle federal investigations _ notes he says were intended for David R. Smith, a vice president with Halliburton's tax group.

The e-mails, he said, focused on how Halliburton would defend itself against bribery charges.

David A. Smith, who says he owns a single share of Halliburton's common stock said in his SEC filing that David R. Smith"was being asked to weigh in on how to explain away the source of the bribes paid to Nigerian officials."

I am still cynical when it comes to expecting the MSM to accurately report the real news.

Make DU simultaneous with the MSM so that you will get credit for putting the story out there, and keep the MSM for taking credit for 'scooping' the news.

Just a thought...

36. What I hope happens...
... is that David posts notices here, that something new is up on the websites - then, on a time delay, posts a redundant copy here, for the DU to have in its own archive. That way, any enterprising DUer who's working on another angle of the story - who stumbles across the "missing" puzzle piece - will have it available for his or her own line of inquiry.

I'd probably be quite good at it, and I'm not sure I'd be amazed, I know some good information has come from "dumpster diving", but whew - I mean alas, I'm too old and ....let me think....frail, that's it!

Plus, one would have to know what was useful, and what wasn't, which I'm not sure I'm bright enough to do.

Do you do THAT, too?

41. Just the Beginning
"This circled the globe, and it's just the beginning."

That's pretty much the size of it. The hard work of the many whistleblowers, and the many lawmakers, Hill staffers, and career "bureaucrats" (e.g., careerist Federal Government attorneys) is about to be harvested.

Welcome to Autumn.

72. Corp.....it's a sincere honor to salute you..... one of the hardest things to do
in this country is to expose government corruption. Even many here on DU just dismiss it as if it should be easy enough to go through.

Exposing serious corruption or being part of the process is one of the most DANGEROUS and emotionally exhausting experiences one can go through.

Anyone who has taken it on at any level now understands the nature and difficulties of what Kerry went through, and how much of the DC powerstructure rose against him for SEVEN LONG YEARS - from the beginning of IranContra thru the limits of BCCI. CIA drugrunning in 1995, he was facing down his own party who was in charge.

The people bravely surrounding you have been through the fire before. Just know that many of us do get the import of what you're doing and appreciate your courage and character.

Stay strong.

78. Tolkien's Istari
Edited on Sat Nov-04-06 04:27 PM by IdesOfOctober
"If you know Tolkien at all, then you may appreciate the analogy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunedain"

Actually, for those who appreciate Tolkien, this analogy works for David: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Istari

Some "wizards" or "whiz kids" are like Saruman the White. They hoard their knowledge in closed systems, growing ever more secretive, desiring - eventually, if not at the outset - to control: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saruman

Others are like Radagast the Brown - well meaning, but putting their knowledge to very little practical use: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radagast_%28Middle-earth%29

Others are like the Blue Wizards - who passed out of time and knowledge, after a promising start: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Wizards

Then there's Gandalf the Grey. Gandalf, who didn't want to be sent in the first place - but who worked tirelessly once sent: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gandalf

Gandalf, who - upon his arrival in Middle-earth, immediately inspired the secret confidence of Cirdan:

"Throughout the Third Age the guardianship of the Three (Elven) Rings was known only to those who possessed them. But at the end it became known that they had been held at first by the three greatest of the Eldar: Gil-galad, Galadriel, and Cirdan. Gil-galad before he died gave his ring to Elrond; Cirdan later surrendered his to Gandalf. For Cirdan saw further and deeper than any other in Middle-earth, and he welcomed Gandalf at the Grey Havens, knowing whence he came and whither he would return.

'Take this ring, Master,' he said, 'for your labours will be heavy; but it will support you in the weariness that you have taken upon yourself. For this is the Ring of Fire, and with it you may rekindle hearts in a world that grows chill. But as for me, my heart is with the Sea, and I will dwell here by the grey shores until the last ship sails. I will await you.'" (Appendix B, Lord of the Rings, which tells a lot of the back story.)

...

"As they came to the gates Cirdan the Shipwright came forth to greet them. Very tall he was, and his beard was long, and he was grey and old, save that his eyes were keen as stars; and he looked at them and bowed, and said: 'All is now ready.'

Then Cirdan led them to the Havens, and there was a white ship lying, and upon the quay beside a great grey horse stood a figure robed all in white awaiting them. As he turned and came towards them Frodo saw that Gandalf now wore openly on his hand the Third Ring, Narya the Great, and the stone upon it was red as fire. Then those who were to go were glad, for they knew that Gandalf also would take ship with them."

Narya, the Ring of Fire, the Red Ring of Fire - Narya the Great - symbolizes the flame of knowledge. Gandalf moved among the various peoples of Middle-earth, giving them hope, glad tidings, and - above all - knowledge that they could use when the darkest hour was upon them.

Gandalf was all about "open systems," and information-sharing, and collaboration. He laughed easily, drank heartily - and oh! - his fireworks were magnificent (Narya's influence, again)!

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=gandalf+fireworks+shire+bilbo%27s+birthday

So now you know - and if you're a Tolkien fan (as many of David's friends are) - now you really know.

94. 17k paid canvassers on election day, plus 6-7k vounteers state wide
Marist has Bob up by 8%, with Indie voters breaking to Bob 39 to 51. SO the 3 polls have Bob up 8-10-12. While Bob's approval is up 3 to 4, and Kean's approval is down 1%.

NJ voter reg is 50% Indie, 30% DEM & 20% "R". With all things turnout are equal amounst the "R"'s & "D"'s, if Indies are breaking 12% to Bob, I think its safe to say the trend is to Bob. Our GOTV is double or triple the size of the "R"'s during the last 72 hrs. IF we win on the GOTV front, thats worth 3-5%.

SO I am revizing my predictions upwards, Menendez by 11 to 17%

I have no relation to FOX news.

I wonder if the Bridas caper will get much play.

as for the seeds, US Customs is so used to people bringing snack food from that area that they just ignore them.A small quantity might arouse suspicion but a pound or two in the snack food container wouldn't.I had an Iranian friend that used to bring back pounds of them whenever she went home to visit.
