I know that the GOP will get someone on the Supreme Court - Alito or another nazi. The filibuster seems like a waste of time, but if any senate Dem wants to have a backbone, hell, I support it!

Just curious, what do ya'll see a victory in this situation?

A liberal supreme court nominee?
Another conservative?
A moderate?
A standstill / shutdown.

I would be happy if Bush needed to wait until after the SOTU to see Alito on the bench.

1. Ultimate victory is that seat stays open until 2009.
And I believe it is possible if we all put in a maximum effort.

5. someone posted a thread -that showed that after a filibuster
the next SCOTUS appointee, historically, has been more moderate.

Also - it would be nice to take that gloating point out of TSOTU - but that is just gravy.

Little Lord Pissypants wouldn't like that at all, would he??!

6. Not after a filibuster, after the nominee is defeated.

And we have the votes to do neither.

7. It's my understanding
that the only other nominee to the SCOTUS who was filibustered was Abe Fortas, sitting Justice and LBJ pick who did not have the backing of a majority of Senators. If there were others, I'd like to know.
