I am MORE angry at the average voter than Bush
Edited on Fri Jan-27-06 09:30 AM by bushmeat
This is it, I have had it with the average voter.

I (and all of DU) knew this would happen if * won again. All of us walked dozens of miles to get the word out.

And what did we find behind most Democratic & Independant doors?

Apathy.

I am still fighting as hard as I can because I have to.

I knew this would happen. But the voters attitudes were "this will have no effect on me so why should I care?"

Well they are about to find out why, the *&**^(^*( morons.

1. I was just thinking the same thing yesterday...
To everyone I know who voted for the clueless bastard, I just want to go up and say "Shame on you! Look what you're responsible for!!!" But in the end, I know that this approach will only inflame them more... So I'm trying to calm down, fight as hard as I can (like you), and present rational & constructive discussions (with facts) to them.

Lots of other Americans will stay clueless until something awful happens to them.

4. SOME people are truly morons
but I suspect most just feel plain powerless and hopeless. I don't know anyone who is happy with the obscene gas prices, the disastrous state of our health care system, and the disappearance of U.S. manufacturing jobs.

who are completely defeatist re the Alito nomination.

They don't understand why you sometimes must fight with everything you've got whether you think you'll win or not. It isn't just about "winning".

6. The average voter will care when it's too late.
"First they came for the Gypsies and I didn't speak up. Then they came for...". Everyone on DU has heard the quote a thousand times.

The average voters will finally "get it" when it's their doors that are knocked on in the middle of the night. It's easy enough to say they'll get what they deserve, but it's all of us that are screwed.

8. Exactly! Thank you. None of this would be happening...
if the average person kept themselves informed. If the average person cared about anything beyond what was spoon fed to them or right in front of their faces. But they don't so here we find ourselves. If we had an informed public everything else would fall into place.

Of course that's never going to happen so...here we find ourselves.

9. Why do you think Alito's approval numbers are so high?
A: Most people don't care. They saw the headlines these past few weeks, and decided that the press was telling them the truth. They don't know and don't care. It's pathetic.

12. Look, their is no such thing as average. It's a mathamatical concept
that doesn't exist.

So if you want to be mad at something that doesn't exist, fine, but it will suck your time and energy that could be better spent actually organizing, educating, and having fun.

I hope you do what you do because it's what you want to do. If you expect others to be grateful for your gift then you are negating your own giving.

A true gift is given without strings attached, without expectations.

I tell you this from my own experience.

13. It's the media!
Edited on Fri Jan-27-06 09:59 AM by Vinnie From Indy
The constant, well crafted propaganda and psyops being delivered by the BushCo corporate media is a HUGE reason so many Americans seem to be crazy. Many DU'ers make a huge mistake when they simply reply "turn it off" as a solution to this problem. While that is a wise proposal on a personal basis, the fact is that the vast majority of Americans still get their news from the handful of corporations that are doing BushCo's bidding and they are not going to stop no matter how forceful or persuasive the argument to "turn it off" is made. Even if "turn it off" idea had a remote possibility of having an impact, which it won't, it will take time and America will have moved so far into despotism at that point it won't matter.

We have to get our Democratic leaders to fight back and personalize the attacks on those journalists that routinely lie, misdirect and generally work for BushCo. on a full time basis. While the rise of the blogosphere and Internet based media is wonderful, it isn't enough. We need to get our leaders to start attacking the integrity of the news business in America.

Other than the ability to manipulate election results here in America, controlling vast swaths of the media is BushCo's most effective tool to stay in power. It really is that simple.
