"I earned political capital in the campaign and now I intend to spend it"
I guess he thought he had a mandate in 2004 and could do whatever he wanted. I thought that statement sounded extremely autocratic and arrogant. I remember him saying he'd reach out to those who share his goals. One wonders if this "plan" will continue now. I don't think he has truly been able to cognize the electorate's vast unhappiness!
That the train was about to go off the rails. An incumbent had just squeaked by his challenger, likely through flat-out fraud - and he was babbling about spending his political capital? Clearly a disconnect from reality.
9. Chicago Tribune: The Swamp---"Bush's capital is spent"
Watch for the president to set a new tone, not the unbridled tone of that last post-election press conference. Watch for the president to call for political reconciliation, a time of healing.
10. "It is my style"........what 'style' exactly, would that be?
I left out this part, which IMHO, makes it even worse! "Let me put it to you this way: I earned capital and now I intend to spend it. It is my style". He also said in that speech that he had "the will of the people".
