I've been saying pretty much the same thing all day. It's been very hard to get anyone's attention.
Last night's vote was a repudiation of corruption and extremism. It wasn't a mandate, it was a "show us what you've got."
We WILL be judged on how much effort we put into fixing the problems facing the average citizen. It's about HEALTHCARE and MINIMUM WAGE and IRAQ. It's about rooting out the corruption in Congress--which, if you remember the poll results leading up to the election, has an approval rating barely in the double digits. Particularly the Republicans.
There are a lot of things the Dems need to do to fix the things the Republicans have fucked up. Americans WANT investigations, but not at the expense of taking care of the business of America. Healthcare for all Americans. Better educational opportunities. Real immigration reform. Job protection.
There are two sides to the Republican ideology--social and economic. A lot of people who don't support their social ideology support their "fiscal responsibility" meme. The problem is that their economic model doesn't work the way they say it does. "Voodoo economics" doesn't work. You can't give tax breaks to corporations and the richest Americans and expect it to stimulate the economy. Only giving money to people who will actually spend it will contribute to economic growth.
We need to deconstruct their economic model. That will pull some people away from the Republicans.
But MORE importantly, we need to counter their "family values" bullshit by fully exposing their hypocrisy--they cover up things that are against their so-called "family values" when it's convenient. We all know it.
If we dig deep and reveal all the dirt they're hiding--and we know they're hiding stuff. It's a given. Most people who scream the loudest about "morality" are trying to cover up some pretty damn awful things that are going on in their own heads.
It needs to be a two-prong attack. We need to disprove their economic model and reveal their hypocrisy. Doing these two things will break down a LOT of support for the Republican Party and open up an already vulnerable pResident to serious investigation and impeachment. Once we show the levels of corruption we KNOW exist, the public will demand it.
So let's stop poking at each other and start poking at the Republicans. It will be MUCH more satisfying in the end.
