I feel a little guilty about this one - I posted it in the LGBT room because one of the entries is a very compelling story about bullying in schools filmed by a gay high school student. The makers had promised that, if they one the grand prize in this contest, they would donate the money to anti-bullying efforts in the schools - so I was trying to help drum up votes for the entry. As it is, there are only a few hours left in the voting, and it looks pretty evident that this entry will end up third - not such bad news, because two finalists receive some $10,000.
On the other hand, tonight was the first time that I watched portions of some of the other clips, and every one of them tells a compelling story about tolerance or. .. the price of intolerance in many different facets of life. There is one about the sexual exploitation of a girl, one about the ghost tribes of America...a story about Darfur. . .well, different ones which speak to some of the special interests of many DUers.
And while I want "We Belong" to at least score a prize, I think it would be nice to offer all of you a chance to look at the entries in this "Welcome to the seeds of tolerance" campaign. I know voting only goes on for a few more short hours and you have to register (free) to vote. But you can look at the clips and it gives you things to think about, particularly if you are home on a cold, icy/snowy leftover night in the Midwest or Great Plains. . .:-).
Anyway, please check these out - and if it so moves you, I'd love more votes for "We Belong." But if something else moves you deeply - you all know how to vote your conscience. Really - these clips are very interesting - very compelling - and made by quite talented people with a message.
