We finally saw "Borat" last night--
got a babysitter and out we went. I have to say, it's the funniest, most original, most daring movie of the past twenty years or so. We're talking no holds barred, flat-out, balls-to-the-walls (literally, in one case) comedy that savages those who deserve to be savaged, and is remarkably gentle with those who are truly vulnerable. I give it three thumbs up, six stars, and a big, wet kiss. Hooray for Borat!

1. I wholeheartedly agree
It was the first movie in a long, long time to make my belly ache from laughter. I thought I was going to wet myself. The man is a friggin' genius.

2. I found that fundie church scene bone chilling.
Those people are completely and utterly delusional.

4. What was interesting about that scene, though,
Edited on Sat Dec-02-06 10:55 AM by smoogatz
was that Cohen was relatively restrained--he really didn't go over the top to make fun of them. He just shot the service and did what they were doing. The scary part was that state chief justice, talking about how America is now and has always been a Christian nation. How the hell do these people get appointed?

3. I would love to see him interview some of my relatives
better than having a judge and jury.

7. I'll buy it, when it comes out.
I'm very selective, now, about actually buying DVDs (it's too easy to rip and burn rented ones), but I'll be glad to shell out the 20 clams in this case.

10. Borat is a very interesting combination of low humor
and extremely sophisticated humor at the expense of racists, anti-semites and homophobes. There are shit jokes, but they tend to come in the form of bags of human shit being handed to proper (racist) southern ladies. It's wonderful stuff.

11. Ali G show
Most (maybe all), of the "Borat" segments are posted on YouTube.

The first season ones filmed in England aren't as funny as the later ones filmed in the US, but it's interesting to see how the character progressed and was fine-tined.

The sad thing is that because of the success of the movie and media exposure, the Borat character is finished. It would be pretty much impossible for Cohen to sucker his targets in anymore.

This one is easily my favorite...
