You know what I know?? - Some poor dumb kids already died.
Their deaths are going to get announced tomorrow - and this process is going to go on and on.

I don't listen anymore - it is ENOUGH!! Anyway, I believe my "lieing eyes" at this point.

I will not listen to CNN anymore. - They are so far behind in reporting it makes me sick to my stomache. They should have done the right thing - and more miserable failures do not exist in our country. They should be ashamed of themselves.

They are not numbers - they were little kids that believed they were doing the right thing.

It was always BS - you know, if they really thought there was a "mushroom cloud" coming in 45 minutes - every single one of us were thinking, well, then we have our own Mushroom cloud coming their way in 30 minutes -

Didn't happen - just like everything they ever said about the "good things" in Iraq - were crap.

There is nothing good - what good comes from a war, any war? Don't give me WWII, I wrote a book about that war.

We are ready for a big fight right now - and for the life of me, I have no idea what they could possibly do.

God bless the United States - we are a great country that does NOT deserve this crud.

Joe

2. They are not dumb. Most, if not all, are certainly misinformed.
Maybe brainwashed, but they most definitely are not dumb, and I suggest you edit the OP accordingly.

4. I try to select my words carefully.
I have yet to meet a 19 year old kid that didn't do a dumb thing - including me when I was that age.

No brainwashing - it wasn't necessary.

Oh, dude - I love those kids - but they were dumb. They believed the army - that lasted until - oh, the first time a bullet went past their head.

I think - it is the point patriotism meets survival - that is the point where we can fairly judge a wars necessity.

They are making those judgements everyday.

5. It's your post, and you are responsible for the words you choose.
Dumb, to me is a word that connotes very negative things about the person(s) being described.

No argument that every 19 year old has done dumb things, but that does not make them dumb.

These kids have been lied to, repeatedly, and that led to their decisions to enlist, or join the reserve or guard.

These are the reasons for my objection to the use of the word. There are several more appropriate words that it can be replaced with.

3. I agree that comparing the Iraq war...
...and WWII--is absurd.

You wrote a book about WW2, so you understand far better than I--that WW2 and the Iraq
War don't even belong in the same sentence--unless you're explaining their stark differences.

6. What makes you think I understand better than others??
The common argument I have heard is that it is possible for "good" to come from a war. That is all.

It is possible, I suppose - the only example I know being WWII. End of possible metaphors.

Yeah I did write a book about the 2nd WW. I know an awful lot more about 19th century american warfare.

I understand the theoretical - that good can come from war - it is possible. And extremely unlikely.

I know this for a fact. This does not have nearly as much to do with my knowledge of the 2nd WW or of Viet Nam or any other war as much that I KNOW how screwed up war is for generations. And that to get good from evil, you have to be able to deal with the devil.

What is it Robert Macnamara said - to do good you must be prpared to do evil - pretty profound.
