Dog tunnels through snow to save owners (w/video)
http://www.wbir.com/news/archive.aspx?storyid=40172

A seven year old German Shepherd - Timberwolf mixed dog named Shana is quite a canine hero in Alden as the story spreads of her efforts to save her owners during the October surprise storm.Advertisement

Eve and Norman Fertig, who are both 81 years old, were out treating injured birds in the Wildlife Sanctuary on their Alden property on the night of October 12th. They left as the storm intensified but, were soon trapped by falling trees and heavy snow as they tried to walk back to their home. Eve realized they could die in the bitter cold but, fortunately, Shana was with them.

As the cold and snow chilled them both without heavy coats and gloves, Shana started digging under the snow and trees.

2. German Shepherds are the smartest, most loyal dogs on the planet...
Of course, I'm prejudiced - I've always had them, and have 2 now!

5. Hubby had never been a dog person or had a dog before,
but I finally talked him into getting me one for my birthday. We rescued a 6yo german shepherd/husky mix from a shelter and she has been wonderful! Silver is constantly by my side unless hubby is taking her on a long walk or hike. Her happiest and most content moments are when the whole family is in one room and she can just lay there with us, othewise, she paces between our different areas and never "settles down" until we go to bed.

Good Doggie!

Dogs are the best friends we have. They never judge us and are always
happy to see us no matter what.
