Black And White - DU inspired this poem from my wife this morning - kick it up!

[The Straight Story]

Black And White

What color is a childs laughter?
What shade of blue is a fall sky over a tapestry of gold leaves?
What is the color of love when given freely?
Could you paint a picture of hope if you only have black and white on your canvas?

Could you sew a quilt to warm all others if you only have the thread…
Where is the tapestry beauty of fabric that makes mankind?
Can we share the warmth if we only share the pattern?

Do our arms feel the weight of another if we only think of embracing?
Do our lips feel the crush of passion if we only imagine the kiss?

Can you swim the ocean of life if fear is your only life jacket?
Can we feel the joy of the sand in our toes if we only walk the same beaten path?


Can we answer these questions if we have never given our hearts and minds to others?
Can we answer these questions if we have never given to ourselves?
Can we sing a song of hope if we do not know the lyrics?

Our canvas is vast and blank
Our brushes are varied
Different sizes
Different purposes
But always making brushstrokes to an end result….

The beauty of life exists in all colors
With all things
Included to make a mural of humanity

Hang your passions on the wall for all to see
Share the colors of life with others that may see gray as the only option
Extend your arms so you can feel the touch of another in return
Open your soul so you may know your own lyrics of hope
Walk beneath the blue sky of life
And reach for an umbrella of friendship when the dark clouds of life loom
Paint your life with the colors of the rainbow
And never use black and white as the only colors on your palette
We are a beautiful family
And the colors of love can never be dimmed

The line that really stood out for me is this one:
