1. Another ethanol subsidy, another "someday" energy proposal

Switchgrass has potential for ethanol production, if only DOE or whoever can come up with a chemical process to break down the cellulose molecules which make up the bulk of plants.

It's possible, but questions of scaling, economic feasibility, environmental consequences, ability of ethanol so produced to compete, etc., remain largely unanswered.

5. I plant and use switchgrass all the time

It has a very bright future and has many different uses; Landscaping, erosion control, bio filtration
of environmental contaminates, sustainable agriculture, and not the least of which is it's ability
to fix atmospheric carbon.

Post #1 is right it's use as a biofuel is way down the line and highly complex. To * it was just a talking
point and just as likely as his manned mission to mars.

BTW the use of switchgrass as a biofuel is at least 30 years old ..... and was laughed off as a hippy idea
@ the time.
