We need another supercarrier like we need another hole in our heads!
   From NewsSuxx!
Please Note: In early 2007 the Navy and President will decide on the name of America's next nuclear supercarrier, designated as ship CVN 78. A movement is a foot to name the carrier the USS Gerald Ford. NewsMax has launched a nationwide petition effort to remember one of America's beloved Presidents.

Please join us below!

Thank you.

Jesus, is it too much to ask, how about cutting back on the toy, and start spending money on education, health care, enviroment, Veterans etc..and maybe give some back to working families? Better yet how about the Generals and Admirals and the defense contractors forced to have bake sales to fund these toys?

1. There is definitely too
much military hardware in the world.

Do we really need another carrier?

3. There's never enough for
the people of this country, even small programs are cut or gutted as wasteful but anything military (except the vets!) goes right through.
When are people going to wake up and demand that the defense budget be trimmed by a lot?

5. I was thinking...
Could a president opt out of having his name going to a weapon of war?

I wish we would see that.

8. Well you got the USS George HW Bush
Hell I bet for that kind've money, you could fund the Defense Dept, and use the cash for repair and maintennace of present equipment, training for the troops, I mean how many battle carrier groups do we need? Hell China will probably reposess them for nonpayment of debt eventually.

10. strictly speaking, I don't think it's an "additional" carrier.

when the navy adds a new one, they decommission another.

the salt in the wound is that the george HW * "replaced" the
JFK, I believe.

9. Why not the USS Mallard Fillmore?

Since Ford was only President for two-and-a-half years, will it be a shorter carrier?

11. When the Draft Comes, they'll need Air Support against the Rioters
When Generation Me First and Only starts getting drafted,
and realizes that they have to die for the Bush Reich, there will be massive demonstrations
and the Bush Reich will need shock and awe air strikes
against American citizens
They won't be able to use the National Guard, because they have been used in Iraq and
probably would be useless against domestic citizen "insurgents"

13. Sorry, but bake sales are for ordinary...
Edited on Sun Dec-31-06 04:26 PM by Mr_Jefferson_24
...working class stiffs who would like funds to be available for unimportant, trivial things like their school age children having decent, up-to-date textbooks. Your tax dollars are for big important things like Pentagon war toys. You shouldn't be worried about your kid's textbooks anyway, induction into BushCo's Militia when they come of age don't rekwire no booklernin.

You can't spread democracy without big, fancy war toys. Get with the program.

15. One of America's BELOVED presidents? He ain't all that "beloved"
Anyone who remembers Gerald Ford at all remembers him in one of three ways: as the president who signed off on the Timorese massacre; as the president who let Richard Nixon walk; or as a clumsy buffoon.

Fuck all that. If they have to build the ship at all, name it the Hyman G. Rickover. They decommissioned the submarine bearing his name in December, so it's available. And on the bridge of the ship, they need to put a big plaque bearing this Rickover quote:

I do not believe that nuclear power is worth it if it creates radiation. Then you might ask me why do I have nuclear powered ships. That is a necessary evil. I would sink them all. I am not proud of the part I played in it. I did it because it was necessary for the safety of this country. That's why I am such a great exponent of stopping this whole nonsense of war. Unfortunately limits – attempts to limit war have always failed. The lesson of history is when a war starts every nation will ultimately use whatever weapon it has available. Every time you produce radiation, you produce something that has a certain half-life, in some cases for billions of years. I think the human race is going to wreck itself, and it is important that we get control of this horrible force and try to eliminate it.
