Thursday: A Surge in Peace, not Troops

Americans Say NO!

Nationwide Protest Events this Thursday

This Wednesday, President Bush will give his "new direction in Iraq" speech. He wants to increase the number of men and women sent to Iraq, even though we just elected a new Congress to help get us out of there. We have to make it clear that Americans do NOT want more troops in Iraq and we have to act fast!

So this Thursday, in response to his speech, people across the country are coming together to tell both the President and Congress that Americans do NOT want more troops in Iraq. Can you attend one of these events?

Events are springing up all over the country, but there's always room for more. If you don't see an event in your area, you can host your own. They're easy and we've done most of the legwork for you -- compiling an event kit that is chock full of information, tips, and tools to make each event a success. Click here to host an event this Thursday -- and be sure to advertise it to all your friends and neighbors.

And this is just the beginning. At the end of the month, we'll be joining the Peace and Justice community in a March on Washington and delivering the Mandate for Peace petition, calling on Congress to get out of Iraq.

6. Thanks.
There is one in my area - I will take my little one. She loves to protest!

Here is a shot of us at a candlelight vigil last summer:

I think the "No Blood for Oil" poster will be coming with us on Thursday.

8. See my post #6 for what I think is going on in Congress...

It has links to Kennedy's resolution on Iraq (to be submitted today or tomorrow) denying funds for escalation, his speech today, and my guess at their strategy, which is nothing short of brilliant, and will bring the Constitutional crisis to a head much sooner than expected, and on the issue of deadliest consequences and cost--the War. They really can't have it out with Bush and Cheney on all the other "balance of powers" issues until they have it out on this one. Well, they COULD waffle around the edges, but, from what I can see today, they are not doing so. They're heading right into the fray. And I think all the news about various people (generals, hawks, Biden, George Will!), all saying no escalation, is part of this picture of the Democrats having the votes, and going for it--taking their war and war funding powers back from Bush.
