How on earth is Iraq going to self govern ?
I am all for pulling out and against this escalation .

After all the bombing and death and damage done why is this self governing made so sound so simple ? Is this just a way to walk away and let them have their civil war until they kill enough of eachother ?

1. They sort of already are ... payback time has arrived
The lynching of Saddam was Shia justice -- they are the majority in Iraq and who are we to tell them not to "take revenge" when we've done nothing but that since 9/11. And ol' Georgie is SUCH an advocate of "minority rights" ... HA!

I feel very sorry for our soldiers who are caught in the crossfire, not knowing who we're supposed to be "supporting" and who our "enemies" are in that situation. We should just come home and let the Iraqis settle their differences in their own way (which IS "self-government").

2. Last one standing gets to govern what's left.
But there won't be much.

3. There are plenty of Muslim nations who can provide troops to keep order...
...while we pull out and Iraqis stabilize and rebuild. And, as we made this mess (well, this administration did in our name), we will still be responsible for helping them do so, just without our physical presence exacerbating things. They were a fairly developed society before we blew it up, and I'm sure the average Iraqi is ready to have things return to some sort of normalcy. They can do it, once we stop making things worse.

4. The way they have for several millennium, along tribal lines. Note over 50%
of Iraqi marriages are between cousins and that keeps tribal ties strong.
