Idaho governor wants all but 100 gray wolves killed once protection stripped
By Jesse Harland Alderman
Associated Press — Jan. 12, 2007

BOISE, Idaho — Idaho's governor said Thursday he will support public hunts to kill all but 100 of the state's gray wolves after the federal government strips them of protection under the Endangered Species Act.

Gov. C.L. ``Butch'' Otter told The Associated Press that he wants hunters to kill about 550 gray wolves. That would leave about 100 wolves, or 10 packs, according to a population estimate by state wildlife officials.

The 100 surviving wolves would be the minimum before the animals could again be considered endangered.

``I'm prepared to bid for that first ticket to shoot a wolf myself,'' Otter said earlier Thursday during a rally of about 300 hunters.

Otter complained that wolves are rapidly killing elk and other animals essential to Idaho's multimillion-dollar hunting industry. The hunters, many wearing camouflage clothing and blaze-orange caps, applauded wildly during his comments.

Suzanne Stone, a spokeswoman for the advocacy group Defenders of Wildlife in Boise, said Otter's proposal would return wolves to the verge of eradication.

``Essentially he has confirmed our worst fears for the state of Idaho: That this would be a political rather than a biological management of the wolf population,'' Stone said. ``There's no economic or ecological reason for maintaining such low numbers. It's simple persecution.''

Wolves were reintroduced to the northern Rocky Mountains a decade ago after being hunted to near-extinction. More than 1,200 now live in the region.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service plans to start removing federal protections from gray wolves in Montana and Idaho in the next few weeks.

1. He and his policy is one big lie... IF they wanted to restrict numbers
They would allow the wildlife officials to implant birth control in the females.

This is all about testosterone and the need to KILL wolves--in order to compensate for what a big ass HUMMER can no longer suffice...

5. Butch is my Governor -
I have no clue how large his peepee is, (nor do I care) but I do know that he's big and tall and likes to wear big buckles and cowboy boots, -- which he used in an attempt to fight his DUI charge a few years ago. (when he was Lieutenant Governor) He said they affected his balance during the field sobriety test.

To find out more about him just google,- Butch Otter, - "Mr Tight Jeans"

"That year was eventful for Otter. In July, he won a “Mr. Tight Jeans” contest at the Rockin’ Rodeo bar in Boise. (He thought he had entered a line-dancing contest.)

He’d been at a club with some cowboy buddies. As they drove away in his Jeep, his hat blew off and he swerved, and a police officer pulled him over.

He had to do 72 hours of community service and 16 hours at an alcohol treatment program.

Otter says he has mellowed and won’t go to bars except if that’s where his guests want to go. He gives up alcohol for Lent — sort of:"

C L (Butch) Otter Receives $80,000 EPA Complaint For Wetlands Violation

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is proposing an $80,000 civil penalty against C.L. "Butch" Otter and Charles Robnett for the unlawful discharge of dredged and/or fill material into a side channel of the Boise River, in violation of the federal Clean Water Act. EPA’s complaint alleges that Mr. Otter excavated and filled in 2.7 acres of wetlands on his property without proper authorization by an Army Corps of Engineers permit.

Mr. Otter owns property on the Boise River near Star, Idaho and Charles Robnett is a Nampa contractor. In the complaint filed today, EPA alleges that in November, 1998, Mr. Robnett, on Mr. Otter’s behalf, used heavy equipment to dredge and fill certain wetlands and a stream channel on Otter’s property.

According to Chuck Clarke, EPA Regional Administrator in Seattle, this is not the first time Mr. Otter has run afoul of wetlands protection statutes in Idaho.

"Through this action, we’re hoping to send a clear message," said Clarke. "Mr. Otter has received two previous cease-and-desist orders from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for unauthorized wetlands work on his property, but for some reason they apparently had no effect. Idaho’s wetlands are too valuable to be treated with such little regard."
