Doyle Holly, bass guitarist for the Buckaroos during their heyday, died early Saturday morning in Nashville, family members said. He was 70.
Holly battled prostate cancer for five years and was admitted to a hospice Tuesday, his wife, Ginny Holly, said. She said Holly died with her and their children, Jess and Heather, by his side.
Holly will be cremated and there will be no funeral. He wanted family members not to mourn but to go out to dinner and make a toast to him, Ginny Holly said. And that's what she and the children planned to do Saturday night, she said.
Holly was with the Buckaroos, Buck Owens' band, from 1963 to 1971, with some breaks. The band achieved its greatest commercial success during that time.
