"Gloria's Shock" - season 5, 7th episode. Mike informs Gloria he doesn't want have children. He cites environmental and OVERPOPULATION concerns.
The world was overpopulated then, citing 4 billion at the time (I thought it was only 3 billion by 1976...) He cited that, "in 25 years", Asia's population alone would be 4 billion.
Gloria whined that those concerns shouldn't stop her from wanting a child, as it was "her duty" and how their child might be able to save the world. (She ultimately sides with Mike, after listening to Edith's talk about it being a woman's job to make babies, since they have the equipment, yadda yadda yadda...)
It's the second 5th season story to have any real meat to its social topics and finally transcends the "typical sitcom pablum" the show started turning into since season 4... (the first was "Archie's Helping Hand".)
Well, it's now 30 years later. Have the predictions come true? And to what extents? If Mike was gaa-gaa over 4 billion people at the time, how's 7 billion today going to grab him?
