I want some great good news!
Isn't it time for a break in one of the scandals? Isn't it time for some more indictments? Isn't it time for a new and devastating leak? Isn't it time for a new and big slip from Snotty or * or Rove?

We seem to plod on through thick mud, with a lot of slow progress but nothing that breaks through and signals victory ahead. Defeat seems as likely a possibility as victory, some days.

I suppose the remedy is to exhort ourselves to try harder!

1. I think first we'll see a case start being built for invading Iran...
...just to get everyone's minds off of that kind of stuff.

2. Here's the good news:
Feingold is going to shame the Republicans into taking the wiretap scandal seriously.

Fitzgerald is going to nail Karl Rove to the wall.

Then the Republicans will scurry about trying to find a way to distance themselves from President Shithead.

Meanwhile, the Dems will actually put forth a slate of common-sense proposals for the consideration of the American people and take back Congress in a Diebold-proof victory.

Bush will be impeached and removed for his wiretap nonsense, and Cheney will be next once Democrats in Congress compel him to explain PNAC and the Energy Policy Group meetings.

One can only hope, but...

>Feingold is going to shame the Republicans into taking the wiretap scandal seriously.

How? They have proven themselves to be utterly without shame.

>Fitzgerald is going to nail Karl Rove to the wall

When? What do you base this assessment on? It's like seeing a cop on the side of the road when you are speeding and still being worried about him pulling you over after you've driven another couple of miles. If he had you and wanted to pull you over he wouldn't wait, he'd just DO it.

>Meanwhile, the Dems will actually put forth a slate of common-sense proposals for the consideration of the American people and take back Congress in a Diebold-proof victory.

The Dems have consistently failed to unify through scandal after scandal and seem unwilling (with the exception, to a small degree, of Dean) to touch the blackbox voting issue with a ten foot pole.

>Bush will be impeached and removed for his wiretap nonsense, and Cheney will be next once Democrats in Congress compel him to explain PNAC and the Energy Policy Group meetings.

This is fantasy. Even the most optimistic projections of the upcoming mid-terms say that retaking the Senate is a long shot and Impeachment can never be a real possibility with the current repuke leadership. (IMHO)

I want good news too. Realistic good news. your post sounds almost like sarcasm. Especially after what we've seen in the last 6 years.

7. Ye have little faith.
This year is the year things turn around.

The powers that be (read: corporate hierarchy) need to preserve the appearance of American democracy, which means they will not let the government fall further into exclusively Republican hands.

The people with real power in this country are tired of Bush's bullshit, and have made their money and are ready for things to cool down a bit.

And they will let Democrats govern for awhile, if only to ease the minds of worried citizens and lull them back to sleep.

So long as we elect Hillary Clinton.

:D

3. Here's todays Enron trial report
I get great comfort from seeking out info about the trial
http://www.csmonitor.com/2006/0206/p02s01-usju.html
snip
As the trial enters its second week Monday, it appears that many at the top of the company intentionally broke the law. Indeed, Koenig is one of 16 executives who pleaded guilty to wrongdoing and can be called to testify.

And while Mr. Lay and Mr. Skilling were "very involved in the daily running of the business," including all the financial matters, according to Koenig, the government has a long way to go in proving that they were knowingly part of a conspiracy.

With more than 4,000 documents, the case is expected to last four months.

"The government is building this wall of evidence one brick at a time, and each of the bricks is intended to show the involvement of Skilling and Lay in the criminal conspiracy," says Gerald Treece, assistant dean at the South Texas College of Law in Houston. "It's tedious. But in the real world, this is what government lawyers do. This ain't 'Law and Order.' "
