Noe indicted in coin scandal
53 felony counts carry possible sentence of 175 years in prison
By Mark Niquette
The Columbus Dispatch
Monday, February 13, 2006 11:05 AM
TOLEDO -- Thomas W. Noe, the coin dealer and prominent Republican contributor whose $50 million state coin investment sparked one of the biggest scandals in Ohio state government history, was indicted today on 53 felonies, including theft of more than $1 million.
The charges include engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, 11 counts of theft, 11 of money laundering, 8 of tampering with records and 22 of forgery. He could be sentenced to a maximum 175 years in prison, although such a sentence is considered unlikely.

Also indicted in the scheme was Timothy H. LaPointe, Noe's partner in the coin business, who was named in seven counts. He was charged with engaging in a pattern of corrupt acitivity and six counts of tampering with records, said the indictment filed in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.

Noe, through lawyer Jon Richardson, pled not guilty to all charges during an arraignment this morning before Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Thomas J. Osowik.

By my count, he'll serve 1.8 years, which ironically enough ends on January 19, 2008 in which he'll recieve his pardon.

4. Maybe he'll plea
Bush may not have enough pardons to go around. Then again if we Democrats retake congress Bush might need a pardon himself.

6. Do I understand this correctly?
That there is not an unlimited amount of pardon that a president may grant?

are people who have been impeached.

10. This could be very important since he played a role in the election, not
only by money laundering but his wife was chair of Lucas County BOE (High Dem County with many election problems). It was reported that he met with KKKarl Rove during the course of the campaign. Hmmh....wonder what they discussed? the weather?

3. I love this paragraph
Besides the state charges unsealed today, Noe also faces federal charges of illegally funneling $45,400 to President Bush's re-election campaign by giving money to friends and associates to contribute in their names.

And thanks to the MSM the voters won't even notice the "coincidence"

Their psychological method is demonstrated in the above article:

"Democrats seek to capitalize on the scandal"

8. 1. they didn't win 2. they knew about this and kept in under radar 3.Noe's
wife helped orchestrate B/C fraud as Chair of the Lucas County BOE (high Dem County) that saw so many election problems that Blackwell was forced to investigate. Blackwell et al needed Tom's wife in place.

11. Thanks for the post
This is as big a story as Abramoff, then it more or less disappeared from the news. It is hard to believe that Boehner will not have some connection with this case.

My guess is that one or the other of these guys will turn state's evidence over the next couple of weeks and the whole sorry mess of the stolen Ohio election will be out there for even the most partisan to see. Of course, they'll probably just say that they were just trying to save his skin.

Nothing like a 175 years to loosen a tongue or two.

is all falling, it's like almost being subjected to corruption overload with how many things are being revealed piece by piece.

I can't wait to see how many cards fall.

20. The best part is that all these crooks think bush will pardon them,
but I'll bet right now that bush walks out of the white house and doesn't pardon any of them. He's a mean little shit, and I think it would give him a chuckle to ignore them all once it's all said and done.

his wife was Chair of Lucas County BOE (high Dem). Maybe we should see if he'd like to reduce a few of those 175 years!

32. Kick for a major story that needs to stay on top.
The Cheney incident deserves scrutiny, no doubt, but it's just an appetizer. (Something shiny, as another DU'er phrased it.) The story about Noe is part of the main course.

I wonder how many other Republicans funneled contributions to bush through "friends and family" ...
