Tavis Smiley on C-Span - BIG ANNOUNCEMENT TOMORROW!
Edited on Fri Feb-24-06 09:42 AM by FLDem5
Gov. Dean and Smiley will be announcing what they Democratic Party will be doing to help black voters in the 2008 election.

I KNOW, I KNOW 2006 is here first - but there probably is not time to get a serious campaign together - so please, let's just be happy about this.

I am SO excited to hear what it is - I hope it has REAL solutions.

Woo hoo!!!

Who says Democrats don't do anything.

(on edit: he said after the announcement it would be posted on his website - I am assuming this would be the one)

3. I will keep listening - he said it in about a minute
12:00 noon press conference - I think he said tomorrow - then they are "going on tour".

I think he said it is called The Covenant with Black America.

I tuned in expecting Fascist Friday and was pleasantly surprised.

Claiming Our Democracy

Did you know…

<snip>
In the 2004 election, voters in low-income, high-minority districts were significantly more likely to have their votes discarded than voters in affluent, low-minority districts. For example, in Georgia, 5.2 percent of the votes in low-income, high-minority districts were uncounted, while only 1.9 percent of the votes for president were uncounted in an affluent, low-minority district.

<snip>
In Louisiana, African Americans are five times less likely to have a photo ID―a requirement for voting―than whites.
More than one million African American men, or 13 percent, have currently or permanently lost their right to vote as a result of a felony conviction—seven times the national average.

<snip>
In the November 2004 election, minorities and students experienced higher levels of voter intimidation and harassment than other groups.

9. 2006 State of the Black Union Address...
Should be great, just like last year.

About the announcement - he said Howard Dean and Melman both have put in writing promises that have something to do with black voters in 2008.
I'm crossing my fingers that it has something to do with the disenfranchisement and rights to vote.

We'll find out tomorrow at 1 - 1:30pm Eastern time. He said it will be announced right when they get back from the lunch break.
