Liberal Media ??? MSNBC Purges Part Of Transcript re: Snoopgate
AmericaBlog posted this entry earlier in the day:

http://americablog.blogspot.com/2006/01/did-bush-wiretap-cnns-christiane.html

Did Bush wiretap CNN's Christiane Amanpour?

From NBC News:

New York Times reporter James Risen first broke the story two weeks ago that the National Security Agency began spying on domestic communications soon after 9/11. In a new book out Tuesday, "State of War," he says it was a lot bigger than that. Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent Andrea Mitchell sat down with Risen to talk about the NSA, and the run-up to the war in Iraq....

Mitchell: Do you have any information about reporters being swept up in this net?

Risen: No, I don't. It's not clear to me. That's one of the questions we'll have to look into the future. Were there abuses of this program or not? I don't know the answer to that

Mitchell: You don't have any information, for instance, that a very prominent journalist, Christiane Amanpour, might have been eavesdropped upon?

Risen: No, no I hadn't heard that.

However, if you visit the MSNBC site, you will notice the transcript has been altered:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10697484/

Mitchell: Couldn't some people call your sources traitors?

Risen: People can call them anything they want. It's a free country. You can call something anything and people today call people all kinds of things. I know what they are and I know what they did and I believe they're patriots.

Mitchell: Do you have any information about reporters being swept up in this net?

Risen: No, I don't. It's not clear to me. That's one of the questions we'll have to look into the future. Were there abuses of this program or not? I don't know the answer to that

(Amanpour Question Missing)

Mitchell: You are very, very tough on the CIA and the administration in general in both the war on terror and the run up to the war and the war itself — the post-war operation. Let's talk about the war on terror. Why do you think they missed so many signals and what do you think caused the CIA to have this sort of break down as you describe it?

Risen: I think that, you know, to me, the greater break down was really on Iraq. It's very difficult to have known ahead of time about these 19 hijackers. They were, you know, probably lucky that they got through and they did something that no one really assumed anybody would ever do. And I think that made 9/11 a lot like Pearl Harbor. That even when you see all the clues in front of you that it's very difficult to put it together.

Now why would they do something like that?

she should be asked some serious questions. If she laughs it off and something comes out, we will know she is full of shit or maybe this will scare her enough. Or maybe she'll get a job at Fox. She opened a can of worms.

56. Congressman Conyers knows what it implies and uses the word "scary" to
describe it.

Please sign Congressman Conyers' letter to support the beginning of Impeachment Inquiry in the House of Representatives:

http://www.johnconyers.com Conyer's Action Items

http://www.conyersblog.us/

http://www.arcticbeacon.citymaker.com/articles/article/1518131/29110.htm

Of course that will need to entail a discussion about WHO PROFITS if the Democratic leadership fails to mount an effective opposition to the Bush Administration, and once more leaves Conyers standing alone on key issues.
I already KNOW who profits. The question is, do you KNOW?

Hmmm. It does fall on a page break, but that shouldn't matter.

43. And Jamie Ruben, her husband, was one of Wes Clark's Foreign policy
Advisor during the primaries, prior to joining the Kerry Campaign.

Bugging Christiane Amanpour would have gotten the Bush Admin all kind of info going on in; the news media, Democratic campaigns--and provide data on her "contacts". And her being one of the last "real" journalists.....this would be "heavy Duty" spying.

Nixon's wiretapping z'got nothin' on this son of a Bush!

41. Make sure to read the follow on at AmericaBlog

....

But before you say "yeah, go for it," consider the implications of tapping Christiane Amanpour's phones:

1. Such a wiretap would likely include her home, office, and cell phones, and email correspondence, at the very least.

2. That means anyone Christiane has conversed with in the past four years, at least by phone or email, could have had their conversation taped by the US government.

3. That also means that anyone who uses any of Christiane's telephones or computers (work or home) could also have had their conversation bugged.

4. This includes Christiane's husband, former Clinton administration senior official Jamie Rubin, who was spokesman for the State Department.

5. Jamie Rubin was also chief foreign policy adviser to General Wesley Clark's presidential campaign, and then worked as a senior national security adviser to John Kerry's presidential campaign.

6. Did Jamie Rubin ever use his home phone, his wife's work phone, his wife's cell phone, her home computer or her work computer to communicate with John Kerry or Wesley Clark? If so, those conversations would have been bugged if Bush was tapping Amanpour.

7. Did Jamie Rubin ever in the past four years communicate with any elected officials in Washington, DC - any Senators or members of the US House? Any senior members of the Democratic party?

8. Has Rubin spoken with Bill Clinton, his former boss, in the past 4 years?

http://americablog.blogspot.com/2006/01/what-it-means-to-john-kerry-wesley.html

I had no idea Jamie Rubin was Christiane Amanpour's husband. I sure hope someone recorded Andrea's missing disclosure.

I say lets bring back MediaWhoresOnline.Com. It's time, we need her/him.

After the NYT one would think that there would be a work to the rule observance of journalistic ethics, particularly when it comes to holding back information that's relevant to the public discourse.

Well, if they're listening in on Christine, that's HUGE.

44. According to NBC's response they edited because they are working on a
story they aren't yet ready to go public with. And apparently Mrs. Greenspan tipped their hand. As Americablog now notes, this suggests that NBC is working on a story that the gov't was surveilling, bugging Amanpour. Who's a great correspondent and is also married to a fellow active in Dem politics and campaigns, like Kerry's for example.

Oh please let these shitheads get publicly busted for that on the evening news.

47. Doesn't change the fact that they reported it as a full
transcript when it was not. Well, what we really meant was...

BULLSHIT! Perhaps they do have a story, in which case, as pointed out, they just let the White House know it is coming, not that they would have needed to do it this way, unless Andrea Mitchell was just trying to toss out that warning on her own. I don't trust her for the truth any more than I trust Karl Rove. Anytime I see her on Hardball, she seems to be the spin meister for the Administration.

I am so tired of all this black is white, up is down bullshit! I'm gonna need meds! I get that pulsing heat sensation along the side of my skull and temples now on a regular basis reading this crap. A sure indicator that my head is likely to explode.

51. I'm trying to be patient, but what I lack anymore, is
faith that any of these people really care about exposing truth and seeking justice. I'm seeing very little evidence of it these days. How much has to happen before the media and Congress do anything? How many people have to die and suffer? How many citizens have to be spat upon, kicked in the mud, and publicly derided? I'm one of those citizens, and I am really starting to take it personal. I AM WE THE PEOPLE. This IS a turning point. We are going to be a democracy or we are going to be a disctatorship. Which road shall we travel, and what mode of transportation are we going to use to get there?

Thanks for trying to urge patience. I just have very little left, and I worry the more we push, the more brazen they will become. Well, let's get it all out in the open then and see how this mess plays out.
