The Honest Media Joins the Massive Call for Bush Impeachment
Media Joins the Massive Call for Bush Impeachment

Calls for the impeachment of President George W. Bush and cohort Vice-President Dick Cheney grow louder and stronger with each passing week. This past week, members of the mainstream media and others joined the swelling chorus of voices pushing for Congressional impeachment hearings. The March 2006 issue of Harpers magazine features an essay entitled The Case of Impeachment, in which author Lewis Lapham concludes, "Before reading the report, I wouldn't have expected to find myself thinking that such a course of action was either likely or possible; after reading the report, I don't know why we would run the risk of not impeaching the man.

We have before us in the White House a thief who steals the country's good name and reputation for his private interest and personal use; a liar who seeks to instill in the American people a state of fear; a televangelist who engages the United States in a never-ending crusade against all the world's evil, a wastrel who squanders a vast sum of the nation's wealth on what turns out to be a recruiting drive certain to multiply the host of our enemies. In a word, a criminal—known to be armed and shown to be dangerous. "

And in The Nation, Elizabeth Holzman, who served four terms in the US House of Representatives, writes, "Like many others, I have been deeply troubled by Bush's breathtaking scorn for our international treaty obligations under the United Nations Charter and the Geneva Conventions. I have also been disturbed by the torture scandals and the violations of US criminal laws at the highest levels of our government ....

<snip>

And one of my favorite best-selling authors, the genial and brilliant Garrison Keillor of Prairie Home Companion, wrote in Salon last week, "According to the leaders of the bipartisan 9/11 Commission, our country is practically as vulnerable today as it was on 9/10. Our seaports are wide open, our airspace is not secure except for the nation's capital, and little has been done about securing the nuclear bomb materials lying around in the world. They give the administration D's and F's in most categories of defending against terrorist attack. Our adventure in Iraq, at a cost of trillions, has brought that country to the verge of civil war while earning us more enemies than ever before. And tax money earmarked for security is being dumped into pork barrel projects anywhere somebody wants their own SWAT team. Detonation of a nuclear bomb within our borders -- pick any big city -- is a real possibility, as much so now as five years ago.....

************** March 20 in DC ***************

FROM MOURNING TO RESISTANCE! 3 YEARS TOO MANY – STOP THE WAR!
Washington, DC, March, 20, 9 AM
The National Campaign for Nonviolent Resistance is organizing "From Mourning to Resistance," a March to the Pentagon on Monday, March 20, that will culminate in nonviolent direct action. It will begin with a 9 AM gathering near the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The March bearing a coffin filled with names of the dead will step off at 10 AM and cross the Memorial Bridge and proceed to LBJ Memorial Grove adjacent to the Pentagon, from where nonviolent actions will commence. NCNR is inviting marchers from various antiwar groups to represent a broad spectrum of communities around the country. The march is permitted, but some participants will risk arrest by trying to deliver the coffin to Secretary of War Donald Rumsfeld or undertaking other nonviolent civil resistance actions. Please contact Max Obuszewski if you plan to be there

9. Even the Euphemedia seems to have it on the brain (the one they share)
Consider this brief bit on CNN today:

JEFF GREENFIELD: ...But a second term president whose party sees him as a political liability, as they approach the fall election, that president is not a lame duck, that president could be a dead duck -- Wolf.

BLITZER: Jeff Greenfield in New York. Jeff, thanks very much. Let's bring in our senior political analyst, Bill Schneider. Bill, how politically damaging is this Dubai Ports deal collapse for the president?

BILL SCHNEIDER, CNN SENIOR POLITICAL ANALYST: Well, when we saw a Republican congressional delegation visit the White House today to meet with President Bush to tell him the ports deal was dead, it bore an unsettling resemblance to the Republican delegation that once visited President Nixon in 1974 to tell him, "Mr. President, it's all over."

Now of course, to use Jeff's analogy, they told President Nixon he was a dead duck ...

And these are their major "story arc" drawers.

If we keep threatening repubs with: "You can have President Hastert now, or President Pelosi later. Your choice." we might even get this thing done in time for a one-way trip to Crawford in August.

We must keep pushing hard on all fronts.

10. We should immediately move on next down the line
Edited on Fri Mar-10-06 03:58 AM by Harald Ragnarsson
Sibel Edmonds claims to have evidence of Hastert taking bribes from foreign nationals and being involved in money laundering from drugs.

She is under a gag order not to spell out specifically what she knows for "national security" of course. They don't say she's wrong, just that she has to keep her mouth shut.

She says a dozen well known figures, some in government, were directly involved in 911.

This woman needs to be able to tell what she knows.

11. He's really just there to make the point
They can (and would) have a new Speaker in a day or two if they were to "see the wisdom" of rebooting their machine before we do it for them. Hastert himself is a constant reminder of the Bob Livingston fiasco.

And while I'd love to hear what Edmonds has to say, I'm not as optimistic as others about its admissiblity even when un-gagged. It's not what you know, but what you can prove. And as Mr. Fitzgerald is demonstrating, proving just about anything can be delayed until the Poppy-Patented Peccant Pardons can be safely doled out to co-conspirators.

That could be as soon as this xmas eve.

12. Vice President Cheney must be Impeached First!
"One of the main reasons the Bush Regime went to a war in Iraq was because the Democratic Party was neutralized, by the belief that Cheney had the evidence that Iraq was getting nuclear weapons. Cheney knew there were no such nuclear weapons. Cheney knew the story about Niger 'yellow cake' going to Iraq was a fraud. And yet he pushed that argument, in order to convince the Congress to to allow the war to go ahead."

Yet, now that (WMDs) in Iraq to be a fraud, those Democrats who are upset are not targetting Cheney, but going after President Bush instead. .

The immediate basis for the impeachment of VP Cheney is the obstruction of justice and coverup carried out by Cheney in the case of the leak of Valerie Plame and exposing and destroying the covert operation of Brewster Jennings, which V. Plame was in charge of. Dick Cheney, acted to cover up and obstruct justice in the search to unearth and prosecute the guilty parties.

The Plame case is not the only example of misconduct by Cheney that requires the Congress impeach him. Cheney has committed a fraud against the nation with his lies on Iraq, and also demonstrated blatant corruption in permitting the multi-billion-dollar ripoffs by his former company Halliburton. The evidence is overwhelming.

15. Cheney and Bu$H must be impeached simultaneously....
Edited on Fri Mar-10-06 01:56 PM by calipendence
We cannot allow a new appointed "unimpeachable" VP to step in that will do the "Ford-style" pardons and coverup this time. These people and those that surround them are dangerous. Many of them were there in Iran-Contra. Some around in the original Watergate timeframe. They will be back again unless we shut them down and put them all in prison where they belong. That will only happen if we can get someone like Pelosi to take over as newly elected Speaker of the House in 2007 once this dual impeachment is over. Repubs will try and do everything to prevent this from happening, but that's why this chess game is important not only on how soon we get all of the information out (to ensure a takeover of the House), but also to ensure that noone can get put in place that will pardon them all. Timing is critical.

16. We won't need to play "beltway blindness" when the die is cast
Everyone knows that there is no meaningful distinction in bushcheneyinc.

They'll be Co-Impeached and Co-Defendants in the Senate. No rule against it. Same crimes, same punishment, same transport plane over to the Hague for war crimes trial.
