JOklahoma Voter Registration Information Online

Seems one of our good repuke state senators has published all of the voter registration information online at:

http://www.oklahomadata.com/default.asp

Ostensibly, the good politician is trying to identify dead people who have voted. No word on just how successful that has been.

According to our local news several people have filed complaints with the state election board - which has refused to take any action because the information is public record and often is sold by election officials.

Anyone can go to this site and look up an Oklahoma resident. They can see if they are registered to vote. If they are registered they can see:
* party affiliation
* full legal name
* year of birth
* gender
* home phone number
* home address
* previous home address if there has been a change of address
* voting history including dates votes were cast and whether the vote was in person or by absentee ballot

Is anyone else aware of other states choosing to allow this information to be posted on the internet in a similar manner?

Personally, this concerns me for a couple of reasons. First, the information can easily and freely be accessed and used by employers making hiring decisions. Second, the information can easily and freely be accessed and used by stalkers and others with less than honorable motives. Neither are good and both can easily cast a chill on the desire of some to exercise their rights and participate in the political process.

1. That's a little too much information.

It is pretty common for counties to make their voter registration database searchable online, but usually they do not put the person's voting history. You can enter your name and/or your birthdate and pull up your voter registration number and your status. Sometimes your address as well, but that's usually the limit. No birthdate is displayed, no gender, no home number, etc. I can name you several counties that do something like this, but not to this extent.

I myself would have privacy concerns about this as well.

4. Originally from OK

Having fun looking up family and old friends... ALL of whom are still registered Dems.

There are plenty of good people in OK, many of whom are DUers. No need to call it one of the worst states, L&P.

5. Just found out one of my brothers is a registered republican

My mom is rolling over in her grave. Don't know what happened. I suspect brain damage from the time I dropped him on his head. My fundie sister-in-law is also registered as Republican. I don't get her either. She was a Democrat when I first met her (mid 80's) but after she had a miscarriage she turned fundie - that was about 1992.

It's like the older she gets the more worried she gets about her soul. Frankly, if I were her, I'd be worried too. She's a lying, thieving bitch who attempted to take my mom's jewelry while we were at mom's viewing. She got caught by relatives who went back to my dad's house to help put out the food and get the house in order. This was about four years after she "found God" :eyes:. A private joke (albeit not funny) between me and couple of my brothers (not her husband) is, we don't think she "found" God, rather she stole God from some other dead relative while everyone else was at the funeral.
